I must be the only person who thinks these guys are overrated. "What did you say about Amon Amarth?"

for those who are curious about what Drone is. Just spoke to Greg of Sunn O))) the other day and he was an interesting guy. More excitable and blunt than I would imagine of a guy from that band. Have you heard of the ///Maytag parody?

Has anyone recommended Korpiklaani yet? If not, I'll go ahead and throw them in too. Folk Metal from Finland!

Y'know what I have decided to put my own spin on this thread. I am going to recommend some albums that I have been listening to lately. Hopefully, they will gather a few more fans. Anyways Striker - Armed to the TeethA retro speed metal band from Canada, who play a style akin to White Wizzard and Cauldron. Very catchy riffs, and some excellent vocals are what make this album rule. Sample Track: It Could Be Worse: www.youtube.com/watch?v=goCab3R84vwAhab - The GiantA funeral doom band from Germany. Ahab is one of my favorite bands lately, and they play a type of metal that is very slow, but are so heavy they threaten to crush the life out of you. Ahab have now three full length albums that are all amazing. Highly recommended. Sample Track: The Giant www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhnSFlLwaYYTantara - Based on EvilTantara are a Norwegian member of the New Wave of Thrash, whose debut full length just dropped. It is is an exceptional album with amazing guitar work and very gruff vocals that work well. This is a band you would like if you are a fan of Heathen, Exodus, Onslaught, Vio-lence, Evile, Forbidden, etc. Sample Track: Mass Murder www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx6_j91qCcY

Prog metal doesn't get mentioned in a lot of these, but Threshold
They're the UK's answer to Dream Theater, and they're pretty damn amazing.
They've had two primary singers, the late Andrew McDermott, and original and returning vocalist Damian Wilson.
This is from their new album "March of Progress"

I am going to suggest a couple bands from where I come from, Finland.
First off, Stone. A band that lasted from 1987 to 1992. Most known for bringing thrash metal into a more mainstream attention here.
Obvious next one would be their solo guitarists, Roope Latvalas current band, Children of Bodom. I couldn't decide a good song from them, but I suggest to check out stuff from Are You Dead Yet? and Follow the Reaper and maybe Hatebreeder.
Also, Tarot. It has Marco Hietala from Northern Kings and Nightwish. Except he was in Tarot first.
Then there is some stuff like Battle Beast, HIM and The Rasmus, but I won't go into small details about them.

Finland is the best metal country in the world imo. I love going to Helsinki. You're surrounded by bars that play great music, there are metal fans e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e and people are awesome. It's mindblowing how many good metal bands they have in Finland. Some of my favourites: Moonsorrow (that I already recommended) Ensiferum, with their blistering guitars, catchy choruses and folky approach Wintersun, lead by the enigmatic Jari Mäenpää, who is finally releasing the follow-up up to the epic 2004 debut. (Jari used to play in Ensiferum before he started Wintersun. Finntroll, very unique sound, and even though they are Finnish they sing in my native language Swedish. They have so many awesome tracks, but I guess their festival anthem "Trollhammaren" is a good starting point. Viikate, not really a full blown metal band, but sometimes they muster up a wall of sound that I think would appeal to most metal fans. There are so many bands so I could go on for hours, but it would probably mean nothing at all gets tried out . But if someone likes the bands above some other bands from Finland to check out are Kalmah, Insomnium, Kivimetsän Druidi, Korpiklaani, Turmion Kätilöt, and Kotiteollisuus.
