Still trying to figure out how it really connects to the Dark Tower series as it's supposed to somehow be connected. I believe the town of Derry is mentioned, and there is a robot that is named "Stuttering Bill" like the character from IT. Some fans also think IT is a servant of the Crimson King. And also the turtle that appears during the Ritual of Chudd is mentioned as being one of the gaurdians of the beams that hold up the tower.

Wasn't it said in the book that IT actually came from space thousands of years ago?

It's been over a decade since I read it, but yeah, I have it in my head that IT is an alien, so he probably did say something about outer space.

Man great book. To the OP: it is only a clown in the novel a couple of times. Otherwise it takes the form of whatever the child he is stalking fears the most. Adrenaline sweeten the meat and when the child is at the height of fear, It dines. Despite it's other forms there is almost always a pom or stripes,, or clown like Orange tufts of hair. the spider form is as mentioned earlier, the closest a human mind can come to seeing It's true self. Beverly's abusive ex, sees It's true form and goes absolutely catatonicaly mad before being killed. It, also passively brings out murderous tendencies in the population of Derty during its feeding cycles(every 28yrs give or take). In this way the town is a character and antagonist that gets destroyed as punishment for all its evil the day It dies.

Only read it through once, and am now in the middle of it again, but this sounds about right. Don'they go through that smoke ritual and have a vision of IT's arrival to earth in the form of some huge insane type of ball lightning in the middle of the jungle somewhere? In the middle of reading it again, but only up to page 90ish. Every time I look at the book, no matter where i'm up to, there always seems to be so many thousands of pages to go

something about a giant turtle, I think. Like a lot of his books, it kind of falls apart at the end. I guess that's what happens when you just write it out on the fly and have no idea how you want your story to resolve.

I've never read the book, but I love the movie. ...which is weird because it traumatized me so much as a kid.

I recall a time a true horror movie just involved a psychotic lunatic walking around, slashing people with blood shooting everywhere. However, sometimes the scariest films don't involve a single drop of blood. The earliest films I remember truly scaring me were IT and Arachnaphobia. Flash forward to today and look at just about any modern Japanese horror film. Now those are scary.

At least the tv movie didn't have all the boys having sex with Bev. That's just..weird. Yeah, the gangbang is definitely a WTF! Moment. It is, but without going into much detail, I will say that it's not an unheard of coping mechanism for someone to attempt in extreme stress, which was what they were going for. That said, we could have been spared the details.

You can burn the song of Susanna but The Dark Tower was just fine. The ending no matter how bad it pissed you off, had perfect symmetry with the Gunslinger and the other five books. Imo, anyway. It was good for me from one end to the other. If I read over 1000 pages I'm gonna be glad I did

I saw that movie when I was WAY too young to process what was going on as "fiction", and it scared me shitless.

Meh, I dunno, I liked IT. Not a fan of King's whole body of work, but IT....I don't know what it is, but that book terrifies me. Clowns are horrifying. It's that simple. Kids think they're scary and adults think they're stupid. So what's the good of them?

The sex between the losers was twofold, one it was Bev's final moment of gaining independence from childhood and her father. The rest of the boys too except for the father angle. Two, the idea was for her to permanently bond w/the rest of the losers so they'd all be connected if they had to come back. It worked. One if the main plot devices is how the losers used a child's imagination against It. In this way they could sort of set rules if they all believed in the rule as only a child's mind can truly believe something they imagine. It fears this because it hurts him when they confront It in the house. The losers believe silver will hurt a werewolf and it does. It becomes afraid because they figured it out. In the same way, Bev believesthe group sex will bond them and it does. Creepy but effective as logic.

Something like "A clown at the circus: annoying, a clown at a birthday party: sad, a clown that's just around: creepy."

If I read over 1000 pages I'm gonna be glad I did The ending pissed me off royally but as time went by I started to appreciate it more and more and now I really get a kick out of it. It worries me to no end that Ron Howard wants to make movies from this series.
