I didn't watch the vid, but the text says the reporter tried to kiss him on the lips. That's a very different kettle of fish from a traditional European greeting (which I'm sure Smith is familiar with). I think if anyone tries to kiss a stranger on the lips, they should be expecting a slap. (Full disclosure: I'd slap a stranger who tried to kiss me on the mouth. It's an intimate gesture that carries with it the possibility of disease transmission. That someone would try to force that on me deserves a slap, and a hard one.) Watch the vid, it was pretty clear the dude was going for his cheek. I'm not debating the guy was outta line with the kiss (even if it was on the cheek) but Smith pushed him away. Which is exactly what someone should do. Then he approached the guy again to slap him. Slapping him accomplishes nothing. He was going for the lips, Smith turned his head because he was expecting the cheek. If you read the article, they say that that's the reporter's schtick.
