While I don't think it's as good as SR2 (too 'streamlined', missions outside the storyline being a bit rubbish), it is certainly a fun game. Remember it's the THQ suits that made Volition kill the Red Faction series off by insisting they make a terrible, generic, boring game.
Still, they never topped Freespace 2 anyway.

SR4 will get serious, turn into GTA, get crapped on for not being as good as GTA 5, and quietly disappear. Yep. They should embrace the difference. Before I played SR2 I always thought the series was a cheap knock-off but the aim should be to ramp up that silliness and fun that GTA now lacks.

Do you not realize that the only reason Saints Row as a series is even as popular as it is is because, in the wake of Rockstar going super serious with GTA4, Saints Row was the only major goofy open world game? People love the games BECAUSE of how over the top it is. Do not go down this road, Jason. You will be dealing the final death blow to THQ by turning Saints Row serious. This. I usually find games that try to be all grown-up and mature more embarrassing than ones that embrace their inherent goofiness (same applies to wrestling when I think about it) .

Compare The Third with 2 or even 1. In that regard yes it's embarassing.

Saints Row 3 was as fun a game as I've played over the last few years. Seriously they've done well to fill the 'goofy' void left by the super SRS GTA 4. Like a lot of people when I heard about it I thought it was just a cheap GTA knock off but SR takes the idea of a sandbox game into totally different direction and proved me wrong. I had an absolute blast playing it.

I loved Saints Row. And thought that SR2 was great, just not as good as the first.
The last one went way to far with the whole "Let's be more zany that the GTA games" and ruined it. And not to mention the fact that they even went away from realistic looking weapons and vehicles (Seriously, the guns are gigantic and silly looking, and half the cars look idiotic)
I still play SR and SR2 sometimes, but only Red Boxed SR3 and don't plan on ever buying it.

I have a feeling that THQ is going to throw it's weight behind doing one giant, original IP that will suck all of the resources out of the company and will either bomb and kill the company, or will never come out. So, it'll be their "Final Fantasy" then? But Square Enix has the Just Cause series, so they're cool.

I haven't played Saints Row, and because of that, I look at it as an "all style and no substance" type of game (though I would love to try Saints Row 2 with its various outfits), but it's very popular, people buy the games, and Volition goes out of its way to do whatever they can to push the ante. I mean, what other game would feature Hulk Hogan and porn stars in the same game?
This, however, illustrates the problems that THQ still has, even if their 2013 games can help turn their fortunes around. I know the uDraw was a massive flop on the real consoles (it only sold well on the Wii because Wii owners were DYING for actual hardware), but wanting Saints Row 3 to be like Skyrim or Red Dead Redemption? Those may also be open-world games, but it's an "apples to oranges" type of comparison that illustrates that he really doesn't know what he's talking about.

Ok, my 2 cents on the Saints...
Saints 1 was great for multiplayer. The single player was cool as hell, and had TONS of fun playing around in the world, running over people and pissing off the cops. But the real strength in it was the multiplayer. Blinged Out Ride was the most goofy fun i have ever played at the time. My friend and I would player that game mode for hours on end. Sure, it had it's BS in it (baseball glitch), but I thought that game mode was really well put. Death match was fun sure, and the chains ones were great too, butt he pimp ones were full of squeaking kids who would kill you right at the beginning.
Saints 2 story was awesome. The single player was great, and the most detailed customization I have ever experienced. Sad to see the multiplayer become team deathmatch with small maps and tagging, so i didn't play that much at all. Saints 2 had more things to look for and explore with the hidden islands and the giant rabbit.
Saints 3 was cool, but not the best. Sure the goofball factor was great, and I do have a lot of fun still playing it, but they took out the multiplayer, which was fine, but i miss the bling out ride mode. the story was too goofy, but thats the fun of it. the sad part for me was the lack of customization on your character. Sure, I can still make my killer Joker guys, but the clothes issue was a turn off. I am hoping that Saints 4 brings back the Multiplayer from Saints 1 and the full on customization of 2. Seems they take a step backwards with each game.

seems like some lousy PR, regardless of what you think of the game. I'll never understand why some high-up corporate suits think dumping on the guys who make them all their money in public is a good idea. this is the kind of thing you handle privately.

Compare The Third with 2 or even 1. In that regard yes it's embarassing. Absolutely this, while Saints Row 2 had the silliness factor that 3 had, 3 just seemed to be let's see what the absolute most stupid things we can do are. Which is fine, but it shouldn't be the absolutely ONLY thing you base a game around, which for me is what 3 is. It just felt empty compared to 2 and even 1. Plus the DLC in 3 is absolutely horrendous.
