If you're a big fan of Saints Row the 3rd then you may not be happy with this news. New THQ President Jason Rubin went on record calling the game "embarrassing." In this interview, which starts by seemingly throwing the game and designers under the bus with "Why couldn't that be a Red Dead Redemption or a Skyrim?"contains the follow quote which has angered some: "Who cares what it is and why it got to be what it is? From that team we can make something that isn't embarrassing." Other quotes: "I don't think (Volition) chose to do what they did because they had all of the options available to them. It was the environment at the time. "I know I can change that." I'd call that a bad sign for Saints Row 4.

I hate the SR series *To goofy for me with no interesting characters* but that's kind fo bullshit, SR aint my type of thing but it's mad popular for the reason this dude thinks it's embarrassing.

So umm...yeah, f*** that dude. SR3 is to me, one of the most fun games I've ever had a chance of playing. I didn't give two craps about playing through Mass Effect 3 for a second time, but I think I've beaten SR3 about 5 times that amount.
So yeah. Middle finger to you.

I loved Saints Row 3, so I certainly disagree

That's like the equivalant of an RCA executive chewing out the Foo Fighters and calling Wasting Light a "disgrace and a failure" because its (considerable) critical and commercial success didn't match My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy's, or Adele's 21.
It's good that THQ aspires to more, but that's a really assy way to motivate your staff.

Yeah I've never played Saints Row 3, but as a president of a game company why would he want to stifle creativity just to create a clone of other popular games in an effort to make money? *looks to see it's THQ* Oh, nevermind.

The dude was involved with the 3DO game "Way of the Warrior" and yet Saint's Row 3 was embarrasing?
Dude, f*** that guy!

While it wasn't NEARLY as awesome as Saints Row 2 (I dumped HOURS into that game with Razor, Wolf, Motley, and other Crappers). I sure miss the hell out of Septic Avenger...
But, yeah, it's not "crap", but it wasn't as fun as 2.

Grouping Red Dead Redemption and Skyrim together? What do they have in common besides fun games with big barren worlds that sold well? They are incredibly apart from one another. And Saints Row 3 is...a fun game with a big world, and sold well.
I don't really see what he's going for.

Jason, I respect the hell out of you for your work at Naughty Dog, but like everyone else, f*** you in regards to this.
Do you not realize that the only reason Saints Row as a series is even as popular as it is is because, in the wake of Rockstar going super serious with GTA4, Saints Row was the only major goofy open world game? People love the games BECAUSE of how over the top it is.
Saints Row is the only truly major IP THQ has left(yeah they still have WWE, Darksiders, and Warhammer for now, but I wouldn't call any of them that major), if they go super serious with the next game, that series, and THQ, will be dead. Do not go down this road, Jason. You will be dealing the final death blow to THQ by turning Saints Row serious.

Hey Jason. I know everyone started sucking your dick because of Uncharted. But that doesn't mean you know everything and anything about games. SR2 and SR3 sold really well because "it's embarrassing." Too much SRS in gaming that goofy and over-the-top is nice.

The only thing connecting him to Uncharted was a special thanks credit in the first game.

So all he can be credited for is Crash Bandicoot and Jak & Daxter?
Yeah, f*** that guy, then.

And Saints Row 3 is...a fun game with a big world, and sold well. I don't really see what he's going for. RDR and Skyrim were serious "tasteful" games. Granted, they aren't as tasteful as Jason makes them seem, as you could tie people to train tracks and watch them get ran over by trains in RDR and Skyrim, well, anyone who has played an Elder Scrolls game knows how much of a dick you could be in those games. Basically, Jason wants Saints Row to be serious and tasteful like those games, and not crass and juvenile like the series has been.

Who plays games because they're "tasteful"? There's a reason why the Pride and Prejudice adaption didn't show up at this year's E3.

If they made Pride and Prejudice into a cover shooter I'd play the hell out of it.

So the new THQ president attacks one of only two franchises that are making the company any money. Great move there.

I'll agree with him to this extent... it was pretty embarrassing to have half the story missions just be slightly tweaked versions of side-missions and time-wasters.
However, everything else was absolutely amazing... so yeah.
