Saw this topic way too late and beaten to the punch multiple times on all the Wyoming jokes from a certain cartoon.
But the fact that so many people could quote it makes me love this place so much.
For you guys...

We need to kick Maryland out of the USA. Hands down the worst drivers/pedestrians that I have ever encountered.

IOWA? has anybody even mentioned it?
According to the "Things to Do in Iowa" by roadside attractions and traveliowa.com, the top sights are...
1. The Worlds Largest Strawberry 2. The future birthplace of Captain Kirk 3. Road Cheese Hyper Tour 4. Ax Murderer House 5. The American Gothic House 6. Snake Valley "Iowa's Crookedest Street" 7. Danish Windmill.
Sounds like you could have fun for minutes here.

We've got a Big Ten and a Big XII school here which means we see a lot of talent come through the state to play on a yearly basis. We've got the AAA Cubs, the Iowa Barnstormers (Kurt Warner's old Arena team). You're surrounded by major cities without having to live too close to any of them. From Des Moines you can be in Omaha in 2 hours, Kansas City in 3, Minneapolis in 3.5, Chicago and St. Louis in 5.5. Plus we have the best damn sweet corn on planet earth.

Mississippi (the poorest and least literate state should AT LEAST have something going for it. instead, it's basically made up of dirty delta banks, an empty capital city, and a poor man's Atlantic City (Biloxi)) True, but OTOH, Jim Henson was born there.

I lived in Iowa for much of my childhood. It's... very dull, honestly, but there are people who enjoy the calm.

I live here, still, and many, many people love it for just how calm and relaxing it is. Not much happens here, but it's nice to not have to deal with the constant hustle and bustle that other places might have to. Even Iowa City, for as large as it is, is very calm and laid back. Des Moines, as well. We might be irrelevant, but we're chill.

Iowa has THE creative writing program in the nation, so it's pretty important in literary circles/ publishing circles. You graduate from the MFA program at the University of Iowa and you'll probably have a book out in a couple of years.

Glad my state hasn't been mentioned yet.
My vote would have to go to North Dakota, or our neighbors to the west, West Virginia.
Nobody likes you West Virginia! NOBODY!

Without getting all political in a thread, I have a cousin who lives in Hawaii, in no small part because he married a native Hawaiian girl. The last time I saw them, several years ago when they paid a visit to NJ, I asked if there were any special celebrations when the president got elected, since Hawaii is his home state. They replied "a little, but not much" and also expressed bewilderment at why some people found it so hard to believe he was born in the USA. I said that I think most people forget Hawaii is even really a state half the time, and they both rolled their eyes and said "You have no idea!" and then told me about the number of times they have heard tourists asking where they can trade American money for Hawaiian money. So Hawaii is the state everyone forgets about.
