Did anyone see the Andre the Giant chooses an ice cream flavor sketch on SNL last night? It wasnt that great (granted i was getting sleepy and that terrible kissing family sketch didnt help keep my interest) but it did have a pretty good impression of andre from Jason Segal.

When you say wasn't that great, was it disrespectful or just not well written?

It was just one of those SNL sketches that's funny because of the impression and not much else there... save for the end punch line which was so lame but funny because of it.

Just watched it on Hulu. The impression is dead on and you can tell he was having a blast doing it. But other than that the sketch was dumb. There were no jokes. It was only saved by the impression.

I just watched the "sketch" on Hulu. Colour me deeply offended.

By what? Andre being a "vanilla giant"?

Unnecessarily mocking Andre, for one thing.
The man has been dead for nearly 20 years. Let him rest in peace.

Mocking him?
So, when they do a skit where they impersonate people, it's now mocking?
There was nothing offensive in the clip, just a guy doing an impersonation.
Wow, some people try to be offended these days, don't they?

Not terribly funny, but it was by no means offensive to me.

Offensive? That's ridiculous. Segel loves Andre.
I enjoyed it. It was one of those "funny in it's lameness" quick skits. It was just a minute of Segel doing his dead-on impression in the form of ordering ice cream.

Nothing offensive.
It was like the writers said "this guy can do a good Andre, so let's figure out a way to shoehorn that in".

I haven't watched it in years really but it seems that impressions are what gets them by from clips i see. Back in the 70's Aykroyd didn't even shave to portray Jimmy carter

Being a wrestling fan it was somewhat amusing to see.
I watched SNL when Will Ferrell, Darrell Hammond and Chris Kattan were all there, but pretty well stopped when they left. The classic era for me remains Phil Hartman, Dana Carvey, Jon Lovitz, et al from 1986 till 1991.

An Andre the Giant sketch? That's random. I'm guessing they did it just because he can do the impression.

I loved it.
I really don't see how it was even remotely offensive, other than that he was doing an impression of a guy who's no longer with us, in which case nobody can do Rodney Dangerfield ever again (and perhaps that's for the better, given how few people can do him well).
Segel's Andre was dead-on though, and I chuckled that he was dressed in his Princess Bride finery.
