I thought he'd be there forever as one of their biggest names, unless WWE or TNA came calling with more money. But if I remember correctly, he'd been gone from RoH for quite a while before appearing in his most recent TNA run.
What's the story behind this?

He had heat with a lot of the boys, but the reason he was still around was because he was friends with Adam Pearce. Once Pearce was gone, Delirious got rid of him.

I assumed it was because he wanted a bigger contract and the powers that be said no and so he left.

Probably one of ROH's bigger mistakes IMO. They could really use Aries in the main event scene right now. He's perfect for television too.

He had feuded with pretty much everyone in the company towards the end. Everything felt a little recycled, he needed a fresh start. Plus, as previously pointed out, once Pearce was gone Aries soon followed.

I think by the point Aries had done everything to do in ROH but i was still sad to see him go though, hopefully he gets a good long title reign in TNA

That may be true, but a buddy of mine wrestled on a show he was on here in central Iowa within the last year... and he said Aries was a class act, helped where he could, and even gave my friend his blessing to use the Aries Elbow thing he does when they aren't on a card together. ... so maybe he's just a douche when he's in his "home" fed?

Aries is weird in that he goes through like a few months every so often where he's a class act and a generally nice guy. Then he reverts back to his normal personality of "gigantic douchebag." In his Art of Wrestling podcast appearance he admits up to as such that he's a "difficult" guy to deal with. I think one of the things that probably led to him being a bit more humble now is the fact that ROH tossed him out on his ass, then when he went crawling to the WWE hoping for a shot he didn't hear pip from them. So basically he had to go hat in hand back to TNA (where he at one point lit that bridge on fire on his way out), and keep his douchebag tendencies under control.

I know people love to rag on TNA, but when he was THE Austin Starr he was in line for a huge push and was supposed to feud with a bunch of "wrestling pioneers" and win the X Division title. He was supposed to start off with Bob Backlund, move to Jerry Lynn, and eventually feud with whoever the X Champ was at the time. Aries thought the idea was stupid, bitched about it, and TNA fired him and instead made it Backlund/Lynn vs the MCMG which actually had some funny segments filmed with Nash. Hell Aries and Rod Strong were actually booked to become tag champs a few years ago, but they were booked for ROH the night before and there was a huge snow storm that resulted in a lot of flights down to Florida being cancelled. TNA asked them a week in advance to try and get out of the show, and both refused to consider the option. They showed up 4 hours late for TNA's ppv, and were in turn booked to lose a number 1 contenders match to the Naturals, and were both suspended. Alex Shelley was supposed to fight AmDrag for the ROH title that night, but he obliged to TNA's request.

To be fair, Shelley's first priority has ALWAYS been TNA, and he only stayed around in ROH whenever it was most convenient for him.

I never heard Aries had heat with the boys
Hes been there for years so I doubt thats true
It was most likely issues with pay and budget cuts

Dick move on TNA's part for wanting them to cancel a booking to be sure they get to Florida.

He was a "budget cut" along with DCFC and Necro. Steen was supposed to leave along with them, but they decided to extend his time there and "end" the Generico/Steen feud at Final Battle last year.

I thought the snowstorm thing was the reason he was released, they told him to skip an RoH show and he refused wrestled RoH and got caught in the snow wherever the hell they were running and missed or was late to the impact zone.

There was a snow storm coming at the ROH show that would become Unscripted 2. TNA told all its talent at the ROH show to pull out and come early, just to be safe. Lethal, Shelley and a few others obeyed, Aries and Strong did not. Aries and Strong STILL made it to TNA's show in time, they weren't late BUT they were punished for disobeying TNA's orders. Alot of people forget about that which amazes me as I remember so many being pissed when it first happened and calling bullshit on it, seeing as they still made it.
