Seconded. The Arkham games in particular struck the best balance between the fantastical elements of Batman and gritty realism. Pretty much. Hell, do that, do Arkham Asylum as a movie, see how it goes. MAYBE cut out the Croc subplot for time, and only mention or show Bane in passing as an explanation for Titan, and I think it would work amazingly. I'd kill for that movie. Arkham Asylum is nearly perfect Batman. At least for me.

Arkahm Asylum the movie really is the way forward.
You've got the serious and the dark elements, but they also keep the actual comic book element of Batman and allow for his entire Rogues gallery to appear, plus his support cast, without questions of things not fitting because of the Nolan SRS!!!!! tone

Can you imagine the mind-f*** of the Scarecrow sequences on the big screen?

To be fair though, if it wasn't animated, so that I could have Conroy and Hamill doing the parts, I dont think I'd enjoy it half as much

No more origin story.
At most do a brief montage in the beginning of this parents getting shot/him training/etc. That could take five minutes.
Beyond that, any Batman is fine, but we don't need to see the origin again. Everyone knows it.

The Dark Knight Returns
Cast an older actor who everyone loves as Batman, maybe bring back Jack Nicholson as Joker . It'd be amazing

Agreed on an Arkham Asylum style Batman for the relaunch.
That said, I'd also like an Arkham Asylum TV Show that follows the staff (Guards, Psychiatrists, Warden) as they deal with the greatest collection of loonies available.

It'd be amazing The idea, I believe, is to reboot Batman so they can use him in Justice League, so they can't do this. Which is a shame, because the idea of getting Keaton back, Nicholson back and even Burton back, then doing this, is a decent idea

I think the main problem with straight up making an Arkham Asylum based film is the main villains are Joker and Scarecrow. Both of whom were just used in this trilogy and I honestly feel sorry for the next actor to take up the Joker mantle. The hype/backlash may bury him instantaneously.

No more origin stories. We know for the most part how Batman, Spiderman, and Superman came to be. Unless you plan on going into some wild digression (which knowing how some people react is not advised) you don't need to be going down that path again. Well they said the same thing after Jack Nicholson played the Joker and they were doing the animated series. If you can stomach or like Kevin Smith listen to his new Batman podcast where he does 3 hours with Mark Hamill and he talks about how there was worry about someone following Jack and to not be Jack

That's a fair point, but there's a difference between following a really cool performance and an Oscar-winning performance by a dead man. The comic community is always going to gripe about change, but the backlash for whoever follows Ledger (and someone will...they're obviously not going to just never use The Joker again) is going to be monumental.

The only real way there will be any backlash that might effect the movie's gross is if they try to play it like Ledger. In the end if there a Batman there has to be a Joker eventually. Plus by the time there is a new Batman movie a it will be like 8 to 10 years since Dark Knight so enough time will past if they want Joker in the first movie.

Just....calm down on the SRS. That's all I would do. Still keep it fairly dark, but with some kind of a sense of humor. I can only think of one humorous moment throughout Nolan's run of Batman films: "Accomplice? I'm gonna tell them the whole thing was your idea." And maybe the Lamborghini line between Bruce and Alfred, but that might be reaching. So that's two light-hearted moments I can think of in The Dark Knight alone. I'm not sure about Batman Begins as I haven't seen it as many times as I've seen TDK.
