INB4 "stop saying Aquaman is lame!"
I'll admit, reading some of those stories, made me go a bit crosseyed trying to figure out how they worked.

Being dead in a comic book is the same thing as having a vacation...

Regarding Superman, is their argument over HOW he was revived, or that he was revived in general after such a monumental story? Because if it's the latter, than that's a dumb reason. Why would DC permanently kill off their most iconic superhero, the most iconic superhero ever? That's dumb.

It seems the only characters that stay dead are ones integral to a superhero's backstory. The Waynes, Uncle Ben, Jor-El, etc.

It seems more like how it was done, with all the Superman extras and also how the death was survived, with the thing in the FoS. It think the main issue is that was the point when people knew that Death in comic books was cheap.

No Captain America getting shot with a magical space/time bending gun (that somehow cause him to bleed)?

The worse one for me was killing off Iron Man and bringing in a teenage version of Tony Stark from another timeline to take his place; this occurred before the "Heroes Reborn" storyline that saw all the non mutant Marvel heroes sacrifice themselves to stop Onslaught. This was just humiliating: it essentially said Tony was under Kang's control for YEARS... I mean, bullshit. Dumb Dumb Dumb.
Thankfully, everyone got better and we got the Avengers movie.

No it's not. Superman was iconic. He was iconic in the thirties , the fourties , the fifties and the sixties. He's no longer iconic today. Why? Because he's outdated and old.
And that's why the new 52 was great for comics. It bumped a generation of heroes who could become the iconic characters of this generation.
I don't dislike Superman per say but I can see the Forrest for the trees. You can't stay in business based simply on nostalgia forever.

He's the ultimate Cape, the hero who's managed to last longer and retain a level of fame only Batman has outside his comics.

Superman is one of the most recognized figures, real or fictional, in the world. Everybody knows his origin and powers. You can reference nearly a dozen people, places, or things related to the character to the average non-comic reading fan and they'll know exactly who, what, or where you're talking about. Of course he's iconic.

I'm not a huge Superman fan myself (I don't dislike him), but he's timeless.

Honestly - every resurrection in comics is pretty damn lame.
Dead should mean dead, gone and not coming back. Nick Spencer just killed off one of his main (and most bankable) characters in Morning Glories and stated in an interview that they're not coming back.
He might do some flashbacks which is borderline I guess.

1. Superman 2. Spiderman 3. Batman 4. Hulk
those are your top iconic heroes in orders. But here are the ones that SHOULD be on the list: 1. Jason Todd aka Robin II aka Red Hood (a REALITY punch brought him back??? REALLY!?!?!)
2. Charles Xavier (take your pick, I'll just use the most recent Messiah Complex death. Bishop put a bullet through his skull, yet MAGNETO's protege being him back to health in hopes that he'd lead the acolytes)
3. Johnny Storm aka Human Torch (went out in a literal blaze of glory protecting thE Baxter building from Annihilus and the annihilation wave in the negative zone, only to be revealed some secret space slugs would bring him back to life. The high point is he did come back Supremely bad @$$)
