I think because they could not get Martin Sheen back they just said "f*** it" regarding Uncle Ben. Which is crap. Uncle Ben is THE reason Peter Parker why dons the Spider-Man PJs . My biggest complaint of Part 1 was butchering the famous line that drives Spider-Man... You know the one, they also used it in Gremlins. But this, flat out barely evening mentioning Uncle Ben is unforgivable. I could've sworn I read around the time ASM2 was starting production that Martin Sheen was coming back as Uncle Ben in flashbacks of some kind, similar to how Denis Leary turned up in this film.

See I don't think they have to mention Uncle Ben every time. Of course that's his motivation. Everyone knows that. They go overboard in the comics with it.
Honestly, they coulda gotten rid of the Leary guilt break up too, as it didn't really matter at the end.
Besides, May mentioned Ben

Just saw it last night. I liked it. The actual plot is a bit of a mess but I just kept getting struck by how good Garfield is as Spider-Man, he is miles away from Toby McGuire in playing the character. {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Gwen dying was obvious even if you never read a comic book in your life. I mean the foreshadowing was so heavy for it in the beginning that it went from a plot twist to a plot point.
That said, I'm sad to see Emma Stone go. She and Garfield had fantastic chemistry and I just can't see anyway MJ is going to top it. Ironically, it's a reverse of how it was in the comics.

I loved it and I had heard that it was bad. I had some issues with the way Harry Osborn {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Harry was fine and a few scenes later, he was sick and dying. but anyways it didn't hurt the film for me.

Yeah, I was only discussing with a friend last night how he plays the contrast between awkward nerd Peter Parker and snarky joke machine Spider-Man so much better than McGuire. I mean, I enjoyed him in it at the time, but now, it's just not comparable.

So, where would you all rate this?
-See immediately in the theater -Wait for the cheap seat/dollar theater -Wait for Blu-ray
Right now, I'm right in the middle of "dollar theater" and Blu-ray.

See it in IMAX 3D, I'd say. I really, really, really don't understand the negativity. It was a hell of a lot of fun.

Just got back. I didn't like it very much which really disappointed me. I was a big fan of the first one two years ago. This never did get out of first gear for me.
That said, Andrew Garfield really is a brilliant Spider-Man. He owns that role for me.

I just explained the plot and how the villains came to be to a friend of mine who isn't going to see it... midway through I just stopped and reflected on how dumb Electro's origin and internal dubstep soundtrack are on paper.
The action in the flick was great, but the more I think about the story and the motivations for the villains, it just gets really stupid.

It's strange, there was a Aunt May flashback scene where she talks about.... Hold I don't think this needs a spoilers tab but better to be safe: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Some investigators visit Ben and May after Peter's parents are killed... And you never get a good look at Ben during this bit. It's either shot from the back, or his face is just out of shot.

I have a question about Electro because something confused me in a review of the film. {Spoiler}Why exactly does he hate Spider-Man? I read a review where it seems like Spidey saved him, made him feel important and Max seemingly is a fan of Spider-Man, so why is he going after him?

Some sniper from the police takes a shot at him, Spider-Man's face comes on all the downtown screens replacing Electro's, and he rages out at Spider-Man thinking he set him up. He calls him selfish at one point.

Electro seems to comply but then a policeman opens fire on Electro, and Electro thinks Spider-Man fooled him.

Electro's dubset music kicks in, which is really the voices in his head (combined with some of his other behavior earlier in the movie i think he's supposed to be schizophrenic) telling him Spider-Man is taking attention away from him on purpose, so now he hates Spider-Man because in his mind he's the reason no one pays attention to him

On top of what others have said, Dillon is pretty unstable, talking to himself and having a "conversation" with Spider-man where he's speaking both parts of the conversation.

I like that each answer was more detailed than the one before it. Great forum synergy. Thanks, that clears things up.

Just got back from it. Effects were great, worth going the IMAX 3D route because the effects make the movie. Plot was dumb. Characters somehow dumber.
