IMO they should have picked Electro OR Goblin, not both. It just made things too cluttered. I will say that some of the visuals were amazing, specifically the opening chase scene, and some of the Electro stuff. {Spoiler}Also it would have helped to delve into Peter and Harry's friendship a little more. We hear about what great friends they used to be, but have no context to base it on outside of some throwaway dialogue. They could have built up to the Goblin in the next movie in a more natural way instead of rushing him in at the end.
Also I felt Electro was too over the top almost akin to Arnies Mr. Freeze. I like the idea of a guy obsessed with Spiderman eventually becoming a villain, but feel that there were much better ways they could have gone about it.
Gwen's death was pretty well done, but with how already cluttered this movie was. I wish they'd maybe held off on it for another movie. All in all, I like it more than the first one (which I didn't really like at all). But it still has problems.

first part of the film felt very cluttered to me but I thought things worked out well by the end. one question though.... {Spoiler}{Spoiler}if they were doing experiments crossbreeding humans with animals then where did they get the goblins from?

Electro was basically The Riddler from Batman Forever. I did like the nod to his comic costume: {Spoiler}{Spoiler}Max's birthday cake was white with green and yellow design including little lightning bolts. Dehaan was a great Goblin, but he played Phil Urich's version. Garfield and Stone are still great and wonderful at their roles. Overall the movie was cluttered with poor pacing and odd music choices, feeling like it wanted to have soaring Donner style Superman music, then darker and heavier stuff, but not know when to use what. The entire movie was a lot of great parts that added up to less than it should have. It reminded me of Iron Man 2 that it was so busy setting up what other characters were up to that it forgot who the star was.

The series can be salvaged.
They just need better writers. Or tell the current writers to write better. Or whatever.

So, it turns out Spider-Man tracks down Uncle Ben's killer in the official video game.
That's kinda shitty right... But I was thinking that and then thought.. Rhino was in the first game in a different form.. So these games despite being a tie in to the movies, are not canon with the movies... Does that make sense ?

And even worse, {Spoiler}{Spoiler}The killer gets murdered by Carnage Then again, it also has Kraven in it, and considering he's going to be part of the Sinister Six, once again I assume that's not canon.

The Raimi games weren't really canon either given all the villains and shit that were in them.

Looking like a 60% drop for the movie this week Word on the street is the movie was getting bad word-of-mouth. And considering one of the only saving graces of that movie was the chemistry between Gwen Stacy and Peter Parker... {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Really though, they didn't have to kill off Gwen and I'd say that's a huge mistake. Wasn't Gwen actually being Peter's one true love the subject of fanwankery for years? Why not play with fanboy expectations, tease with killing her off but actually DON'T?
I mean, the whole thing is silly. They can fart around with what makes Spider-Man put on the suit in the first place, but OH NO, Gwen absolutely must be killed.
Yeah, whatever Sony.

Really, it's only a distinctly vocal minority of Silver Age fanboys that cling on to this beleif Gwen was "the one" and that things would have been perfect between her and Peter if she had lived because Stan's vision for the character was to marry him off, which he eventually accomplished with MJ, who all the writers and the majority of fans at the time beleived was a far more interesting character who had incredible chemistry with Peter, more so than the underdeveloped and generic Gwen. Hell, in the comics Gwen hated Spider-Man, blaming him for the death of her father, so even if they hadnt killed Gwen off, they would have found other ways to keep her and Peter apart based off of that.
Don't let fanboy revisionist history fool you. Gwen's only great accomplishment is that was she the one who died, not because she was "the one". That was always, in the eyes of the fans, MJ, and she remains that way (in the newspaper strips she remains his wife). All Gwen has going for her is the eternal question "What If..."

I'm only talking as far as the movie goes. I mean, even Emma Stone talked about how that's the most memorable thing about Gwen Stacy. I say it'd have been a lot better to toy with those expectations to keep people emotionally invested since Gwen Stacy is now slightly more of an actual character than she was in the comics. Since this is a movie that's already changed fundamental things about the Spider-Man story, it looks stupid to me to not change the fate of a character that was one half of the only thing that saves those movies from being dire. I'm just saying if that's the most memorable thing that happens to Gwen Stacy, why not just tease the living shit out of it and take the story in a different direction? But nah, that's the one thing totally sacred to the Spider-Man story that must be kept in the movies...it's just silly.

To be fair they replaced Gwen with Mary Jane in the first three movies so it's nice to actually see the proper story unfold on screen.
Not sure why there is so much criticism levelled at this film, I liked it. (and that's coming from a guy who reacted negatively to a lot of the preview stuff for it.)

It was a decent film, but it was very childish in tone and the end felt cluttered to me with the battle going straight from one enemy to another. The enemies were also terribly cartoony.
There is also the fact that a lot of the film is actually setting up the villains as very sympathetic, you feel pathos for them and so it's hard to cheer Spidey on to beat them because you kinda see why they are angry and sympathise with that. I get they want to spin off, so need people to care about the villains, but still.
Dr Kafka being a mad German instead of a sensible female ally was an odd choice to make.
I loved the scene with the web that looks like a hand reaching and thought the musical use during Electro's Time's Square scene was amazing.
I enjoyed it more than the first, but can see why people feel it's too cluttered and slightly direction-less for most of the film.

I was a bit annoyed that they felt the need to rip of not one but two things from the Iron Man movies . . . {Spoiler}{Spoiler}First Peter Parker's ring tone is the Spider-man theme. How original.
Second, there is a scene where a kid dressed as the hero tries to stand up to the villain only for the real hero to show up.

Damn that wasn't a good movie. I thought this series would be more realistic than the Sam Raimi franchise but it went the opposite root. Harry Osborn has to be worst, most cartoonish acting and worst writing for a character i've seen in a while. There wasn't an once of dimension to him. He might have said ah ha ha throughout the whole movie with no more dialogue.

I have a sincere question as I watched it last night as well. {Spoiler}{Spoiler} Why is Gwen smarter than Peter? One of my biggest gripes is they don't expand or at least depict how Peter is a scientific genius. He should've already known how to make his web-shooters electric/heat proof from Electro's attack.
It would've been nice to see him still maitain high grades despite being Spider-Man while in High School. Granted, it might be nitpicking on my end, however, at least Raimi attempted to depict how smart Peter is in the field of science. It's Iron Man 3 all over again. They go in awkward manner to make the girl more than a damsell in distress but they go too far and f*** the whole thing up.
