Not sure how I feel about the new movie. The Star Wars movie story was told. This could easily be the postscript season from hell. I also see them just going completely CGI like Clone Wars if they ever wanted to continue the story. Going back to the whole "GL raped my childhood thing", it isn't so much that, it's the fact that prior to 1997, the movies felt so much more self contained. Sure you had the Ewok Adventures and the Christmas special, but even the Ewok thing felt like it's own little world. The time between then and 1997, it felt like they were going to let it stand alone. Boy, what I wouldn't give to have that mentality again.

I'm... Kinda okay with this. It's not a bad idea at least to continue on the story if it's a solid plot. Disney's usually good with that kind of thing, right? You mean a 20+ year old franchise? Tron Legacy? Oh! Yeah, Tron Legacy was amazing. I think Episode 7 could work if they have a really strong villain (or just bring back the Emperor or something).

Jesus, George. You're already a billionaire and you sell it to a company whose number one priority is to make it family friendly. I'm not saying that Disney couldn't make it work, but I wouldn't go so far as to say the original trilogy is that family friendly. To be fair, the Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy franchise isn't that family friendly either. Disney's first PG-13 movie was Curse of the Black Pearl Also, it's not like this partnership is anything new. If the theme parks are any indication, Star Tours (Old and new) and Indiana Jones Adventure stay very true to their source material and don't kiddy it up. Indiana Jones Adventure being one of the scarier rides Disney has made New Star Wars film though (And possible a new trilogy), there's no way I can't be iffy about it

From the Disney call right now. the deal also involves Indiana Jones rights, plus Skywalker Sound and ILM. But emphasis will be on Star Wars, not Indiana Jones.

I am fine with this...only if episode 7 has Quinlan Vos as one of the (if not the) main character. I love his character and story, plus I think it could translate well over to film.

Wow. This level of media consolidation is just insane. Not a good thing, really.
Still, I guess I would be pretty happy if Episode 7 was based on the Grand Admiral Thrawn trilogy...

I have a hard time imagining the Star Wars movies starting without the 20th Century Fox fanfare.
just a thought I had.

Wow. This level of media consolidation is just insane. Not a good thing, really. The Government needs to go Microsoft on Disney's ass. Still, I guess I would be pretty happy if Episode 7 was based on the Grand Admiral Thrawn trilogy... I doubt it.

So long as George isn't directing or writing any dialogue, I say let's do this.

Lucas valuing money more than film once again. I think he decided after the reaction to Red Tails or whatever his last movie was that he was done pouring his soul into anything to have the internet nerds (the most vocal group of trolls ever) just bash it because he was involved. As such, he is done making movies. Since he made Lucasfilm in order to be able to make films however he wanted, why keep it if he is done making them? Notice, I think he still has ILM, LucasArts, and THX. These are projects of his that get generally universally good reviews so I think he might just want to focus on them and be able to ignore the haters for the rest of his life.

Maybe Just maybe... Somehow... This will lead to the original theatrical cuts of Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi being released on Blu Ray with new 4K transfers? I would bet money that all the hardcore Star Wars fans would still find a way to s*** all over it. There is no fanbase in the world that seems to wallow in their own childish tantrums more. Star Wars fans maybe but a lot of cinefiles just want those movies to get respectable treatment on video.

I must say this is some shocking news that I don't think anyone saw coming. Disney buying Lucasfilm is big enough news but also making 3 new movies? They better make them before Mark Hamil completely mummifies.

Great news, can't wait to see Zed, Mahoney, and Captain Harris all back on the screen together getting up to all sorts of silly adventures at the Blue Oyster Bar
