WWE NETWORK WILL BE.... by Mike Johnson @ 11:05 AM on 11/1/2012
The WWE Network will be a "premium subscription model" released through all the regular platforms, according to Vince McMahon on the currently ongoing WWE conference call.
McMahon said the network will be very interactive and they have been working hard to plan the proper platform for the network.

So I am guessing Vince means HBO-like since that was the long held rumor?

Yup, pretty much. I guess something like $15 a month or something like that.

They'll struggle with that. Especially as 99% of content they'd show (that people would be of interest in) is easily locatable online. Removing footage from YouTube, Daily Motion and various sites will be very costly and very time consuming and it'll have to be done with rapid expedience.
Unless they include all PPV prices in with the $15 it'll be a ridiculously hard sell.

If it's going to be on a pay channel WWE will lose a ton of money on it.

I still feel this is a bad idea and doomed to fail like everything else Vince has ever done outside of wrestling.

They might be better off just doing a Netflix-type thing. £20 a month and you can watch any show whenever you want. I'd sign up.

I still wouldn't put much too value in Vince's statement. The shareholders have been demanding answers for the last few quarters and he pretty much had to tell them something this time. This might be their current plan but as we've seen with this entire project, things could still change several times.
I still think they are missing the boat by not doing something online. Their core audience is tech-savvy, almost all new TVs have online capability, plus game consoles, Apple TV, Roku boxes, etc...

If it's just a glorified WWE Classics on Demand, it's got no chance.

If they include a significant number of PPVs this has a shot.
Otherwise I really don't like their chances.

The one advantage they have, whether it be a TV network or an online platform, is that unlike any other premium TV network or Netflix - they own all of their content. Their expenses would have to be pretty minimal.

So that's what it is this week? Cool.
What will it be next month, I wonder?

Well maybe I priced too high but i'm thinking of 30 or so years of WWE shows. I'm talking about every RAW, Smackdown, WWECW, NXT, WCW, ECW, NWA, wahtever else they have in their library. PPVs, DVD documentaries.
That's ALOT of content.
My original point stands though, I still think they'd be better off with a Netflix-style service than a channel.

If nothing else, you got to admire the WWE's tenacity for trying to make the network happen, no matter what.

You'll have vey few takers. £20 a month? I don't even have to figure the transfer to dollars to realize that few people would actually pay that much money for a SINGLE network. At least with something like HBO, you get a few others as well. That much money for a single network? No chance in hell.
