I'd like to echo the sentiments about the discussion tonight. few times got a little aggressive, but all in all good fun with everyone. And I just want to say one last thing in this years election thread. In the words of future president Steiner...

I think Bill Clinton is better off-the-cuff than Obama is personally. I was always impressed with how good Bill was at just letting it fly without much preparation. But Obama has been able to do something that Bill could never do: run circles around Hilary. Clinton did a ton to get Obama back on the stage tonight, especially his speech at the Dem convention. Maybe one of the best political speeches of all time. Way better than Obama's speeches this year.

Appreciate the great thread everyone. It really showed me that we are the most civil board on the internet. My guy didn't win tonight but I'm optimistic still and I learned a lot of great things from the contributions in this thread. Thanks a bunch.
With that I'm out. It's 2 am and I have an early dentist's appointment.

Before I finish up tonight, I simply gotta say this was an awesome thread, and just furthers what I always believed about this place. We really are one of the most civil communities out there. Oh yeah, definitely. Could be a little less cynical at times, but this place is pretty damn good.

Definitely props to the mods, as well as everyone who kept this civil and a fun ride. While I'm glad we have the no politics rule, it's still great to see how great we can be when given the chance to talk about it.

Gay marriage won and will become legal in Maryland and Maine. Minnesota defeated a constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage but it is still illegal there. Washington is on it's way to approving same sex marriage as well, 52/48 with 51% in.

Just give Obama a chance to not sell any offense Oh, wait ;D If anyone showed how to sell tonight it was Karl Rove. Worker of the night. Anyone could watch him and learn a million things about performance and conveying the gravity of a loss.

Because...quite simply.....I believe that if he were White, or had a more.....Shall we say Non-Ethnic Name it wouldn't have been an issue. I seriously don't believe that ANY other candidate has had to deal with that sort of accusation, added to the disbelief AFTER he complied. I will concede one thing though. I believe that in 2008 The Democrats could have nominated a plank of wood and gotten it elected. The people were sick of Bush's policies, and to an extension The Republican party. To be fair to Scarecrow, he is right to an extent. As far as the economy goes, Bush does get a bad rap over things that weren't really in his control. He had two bubbles burst on him which he really couldn't have done much to prevent. The Dot Com bubble started it, and the housing market (which was a Clinton era policy) wasn't really in his control either. He was the inverse Reagan, Reagan had a ton of lucky things happen that he had nothing to do with that boosted the economy, Bush had the exact opposite occur. Thing is, I don't believe the president has a ton of control over the economy, I think it moves where it's moving pretty much regardless. His big problems were foreign policy, and the flimsy justification for going into Iraq. That's why I think the republicans basically conceded the 2008 election. Thank you for seeing my point. The way I see it, foreign policy isn't really different between political parties. They just go about it in different ways. Republicans are more aggressive while Democrats are more sneaky. Look at Libya, besides air strikes the US didn't send any forces in, they just armed and funded the rebel army.
