Gotta say, the first few weeks when he was dressed as Surfer Sting, I totally bought it. I was crushed thinking the real Sting had turned his back on WCW. Jeff Farmer did an awesome job.

You did? He debuted on a Nitro, then six days later, he and the real Sting were in the ring together.

See I only have a vague recollection of it, so I don't remember how long it was between the fake Sting's debut and War Games, but I do remember I totally bought it when they showed Sting in the limo attacking Luger.

It was six days. NWO Sting came out of the limo on Nitro, dressed like Surfer Sting but in NWO colors, to attack Luger. At Fall Brawl six days later, the real Sting showed up during the War Games match.

I liked how he and the real Sting were both in WCW/NWO World Tour for the N64 side by side. The real Sting was listed as Sting, while the fake Sting was listed as "Sting"

How long did Jeff Farmer last as Fake Sting?
(The role *did* go to Jacques Rougeau after a while, yes? Because his appearance definitely changed after a short while...)

So, what's the deal with the fake Sting? His name was Jeff Farmer, but he wasn't the Jeff Farmer from the infamous promo. So, who was this guy? What did he do before this role? What happened to the Jeff Farmer that went full force?

What happened to the Jeff Farmer that went full force? Before Fake Sting, Jeff Farmer was a wrestler named Cobra. An army/special forces-type guy. He feuded briefly with Sgt. Craig Pittman, then donned the Fake Sting gimmick for a bit until he was presumably let go and (I swear) replaced in the role by Jacques Rougeau.

If you weren't paying close attention, fake Sting could fool you. I believe he was initially played by Barry Windham, if I recall correctly.
I'll tell you what, I marked hard for Sid Vicious' world title "victory" over the fake Sting at Halloween Havoc. I loved how Sid was announced as the new champ, holding the big gold belt triumphantly, while the graphic displayed Sid Vicious, New WCW World Champion. Every time I viewed the show I stopped the tape at that point in time, ignoring the real Sting running into the ring afterwards.

Never bought it. I was one of the people that Sting thanked for believing in him. YOU WERE ONE OF THE PEOPLE HE TOLD TO STICK IT! STICK IT, PAL!

DId you also buy The Million Dollar Mans Undertaker as real too . As a kid I thought Underfaker was the "original" Undertaker from 1990-91.

The nWo Sting was brilliant. I almost wish they played it out a little longer than they did. Hell, I like when they can deceive the audience into believing that the good guy is lying, when he really isn't. This has always been my idea if they ever get a good set of identical twin wrestlers...with one of them being "evil".

I loved his, because it led to my favourite angle. There's a reason my chosen bird is the crow.

Kinda wish post this, they allowed Jeff to be a face Sting, using the old classic Sting mannerisms while the real Sting stuck with the Crow look.
Then again Wolfpac Sting started being a fusion of the two in a way...

The first time I saw something like this was the FAKE Sting in the Sid Vicious vs Sting at Halloween Havoc. I remember screaming, THAT'S BARRY WINDHAM!!!

nWo sting hung out a while in 1996, then went to New Japan for a long time. He made sporadic appearances as late as mid-1998. As far as I know, it was always Jeff Farmer.

When WCW stopped using he, he was in nWo Japan. They brought him back then and now. Jacques Rougeau was never Fake Sting, Farmer grew his hair out but he didn't have a giant bald spot. Edit: Although I guess there was other Fake Stings but Farmer was the main guy who played the role for a few years.
