Seems pretty much the standard rating of 2.7-3.0 range for the three hour Raws. The only thing seeming to change is the hour by hour viewing figures but that can probably be accredited to people switching in and out over the three hours/going out/coming in/work and all other human factors that three hour programmes face.

So they give people the 2 biggest names in the company actually wrestling for a decentish length match and people tune out, I guess nothing can combat the 3rd hour dip, people havent got the energy to watch 3 hours of this.

Kids are also going to bed and not watching the third hour. If you notice, on twitter #raw starts trending around between 3-5pm eastern on Tuesday, so I assume a large amount of kids are watching the rest after they get home from school.

Kids are also going to bed and not watching the third hour. It starts earlier and ends at the same time. So, kids bear absolutely no role in the actual monday night dip, as 11:15ish has always been the end time, even during higher rated periods.

Not really, they may have disappeared during the 3rd hour and come back at around 10:45 or so. Really, if they want people to stick out 3 hours week after week, something is going to have to happen eventually. The shows are pretty uneventful. They need a big surprise appearance or a major title changing hands on TV or something. They haven't done a title change on TV since Miz cashed in MITB, if I'm remembering correctly.... unless you want to count Cena winning that tournament, which was immediately discredited by Punk showing up anyway. edit: Actually there were two title changes on that show. Still they were both discredited at the end of the show, even if they're canon.

I wonder if they'd be better building the show to a main event climax in hour two in order to get the audience with it and get as many people as possible watching the main event and treat the third hour as the 'what'll happen next time?' hour with a few longer matches. If they're accepting anyway - as they should - that ratings are going to dip.

If they're accepting anyway - as they should - that ratings are going to dip. They need to really change up their lame formula. Everyone who's ever watched wrestling is already conditioned to know the only times anything important ever happens: 9:00, 10:00, 11:00 over-run. They then gauge from there if it's even worth it.

Seems a little ridiculous to dismiss kids at all with the change to three hours. I know I'm sweeping with a board brush here but most kids do have short attention spans and some get tired out when watching and engaging with sports, so whose to say half a million kids aren't getting bored after their normal 2 hours of Raw is up and they don't want to carry on. Or maybe their mums and dads didn't mind sitting down to watch 2 hours of raw with them a week but can't handle 3 so they record the last hour, or only have them watch the last 2 hours. They could actually really affect it if you think about it.

To be honest, this was the first Raw since 1000 (and only because I was there) that didn't make me feel like I was going to fall asleep before the show ended. It's not like they aren't capable of producing 3 hour shows that are fun, they just haven't yet.

@sethmates on Twitter raised a good point a while ago about sturcturing the show. If they have "big matches" a la Punk/Cena, why not advertise exactly when its gonna start? If people know Punk/Cena is starting at 10:30, then isnt that a reason to tune in? Possible ratings spike?

Raw on 11/12 did a 2.86 rating and 4.19 million viewers. It’s pretty clear from the quarters that whatever small increase there was over recent weeks was due to both the return of Jerry Lawler and the building of the Ryback vs. Brad Maddox match where Maddox would get a $1 million wrestling contract if he won. Both segments did very strong numbers for non-overrun segments.
The only major competition was the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Kansas City Chiefs football game that did a 9.51 rating and 12.82 million viewers.
Raw did a 2.4 in male teens (down 4% from last week), 2.3 in Males 18-49 (down 4%), 0.6 in Female teens (down 33%) and 0.9 in Women 18-49 (down 10%). The show drew 66.4% males.
In the segment-by-segment, Randy Orton & Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler & Alberto Del Rio lost 74,000 viewers. The angle with Vickie Guerrero, A.J. Lee, Dolph Ziggler and John Cena in the ring as well as the short Big Show vs. William Regal match gained 468,000 viewers, which is a strong showing at that point in the show. Kaitlyn vs. Layla and the clips from the package building to Lawler’s return lost 234,000 viewers. The return of Lawler, which included C.M. Punk, Paul Heyman and Mick Foley all involved gained 745,000 viewers to a 3.38 quarter hour. The end of the angle lost 876,000 viewers. Rey Mysterio & Sin Cara & Justin Gabriel & Tyson Kidd vs. Titus O’Neil & Darren Young & Primo & Epico gained 233,000 viewers in the last few minutes. R-Truth vs. Tensai lost 253,000 viewers. Ryback vs. Brad Maddox gained 755,000 viewers to a 3.28 quarter at 10 p.m. That’s the best 10 p.m. growth in a long time, so this angle clicked. This is the first time Ryback has shown on his own the ability to really move numbers. Sheamus vs. David Otunga lost 910,000 viewers, which would be among the most viewers lost in a segment all year. Kane & The Miz vs. Cody Rhodes & Damien Sandow lost 40,000 viewers. Interestingly, the lowest point of the entire show was the beginning of Cena vs. Punk, which one would think would be huge. The first half of the match lost 313,000 viewers and did a 2.42 quarter hour. It picked up at 11 p.m. for the overrun, which is probably a combo of creatures of habit coming back at 11 knowing that’s the big angle, and people tuning in early for the next show. The match by the finish had gained 528,000 viewers to a 2.99.

I think a 3 hour weekly show is just too long of a commitment. At least most sporting events that are similar in time have something called HALFTIME, or long organized breaks where I can go clean the kitchen and stretch my legs for 15-20 minutes.
Right now, to actually watch RAW in normal format (no DVR, just sit and watch), you get about 3 hours (plus overrun) of sitting on your butt with nothing but 2 minute breaks unless you just flat out give up on segments and walk away.
