Who do you think had the best reason for turning Super Saiyan, or at the least, your favorite?
The reason why I included Gohan in the poll was for his Super Saiyan 2 transformation, because while it isn't the first form like the rest, it was his big transformation moment, as they pretty much fast forward his first transformation.

Goku, easily. He was the first and seeing his best friend killed in cold blood with no chance of bringing him back to life is for me the best motive than just simple determination or anger.

Vegeta, simply because he didn't wanna play second fiddle to Kakarot. I don't even think Goku went that hard when he was training on his way to Namek, plus...Krillin dying being motivation!? REALLY!? Might as well said the sky was blue is what motivated him lol

Vegeta. This dude put his mind and body beyond it's limits, and it took the most dangerous (and visually badass) location for him to finally snap and break through. My favorite DBZ moment period.

Might as well said the sky was blue is what motivated him lol It wasn't just Krillin dying. Remember, Goku was also motivated by Vegeta's and Piccolo's deaths at Frieza's hands as well. Not to mention when Vegeta told Goku the truth about what happened to their home planet. All of those things happened and him killing Krillin right in front of him and the fact that there was nothing he could do about it set him off. Not to mention that beforehand, Frieza had just survived the Spirit Bomb(or Genki-Dama if you prefer), so there was also a sense of desperation involved as well. BTW, if you haven't seen the Kai Uncut dub of Dragonball Z, I would highly recommend you do so. You won't regret it. It's easily the best version of Dragonball Z in my opinion.

Yami, I also think you could have added Gohan's first Super Saiyan transformation as well. He had a very good reason for that as well: helplessness. He felt that all the times his friends have died around him it was partly because he was too weak and helpless to do anything about it. It's actually one of my favorite scenes in the whole series.

Since I'm assuming Abridged!Bardock's reason for going Super Saiyan (Anger At Ass-Pulled Story) is out... I'm gonna go with Vegeta. While the others had deep, emotional reasons that triggered the transformations, his... probably had similar reasons, and... look, I just thought it was cool when he made 19 his bitch, shut up.

I think Broly had the best reason. I hate it when a baby's crying too. It's probably one of the most annoying things in the world. Definitely a legit reason to go all Super Saiyan.

Easily Goku's. It was probably the first time where his general innocent love of fighting didn't play any factor in his motivation to kick Freeza's ass. He had gone through heartache before, but seeing his best friend getting popped like a balloon was obviously the final straw.

I grew up on the series , just the poll had the stupidest option for HIS motivation lol. All of em woulda went at least SSJ 2 by the time cell showed up had Krillin been their reasoning

Bardock's hatred of the plot transformation in the TFS episode. Pure beauty.

He felt that all the times his friends have died around him it was partly because he was too weak and helpless to do anything about it. It's actually one of my favorite scenes in the whole series. While that's true, I believe that could also apply to his SSJ2 transformation. The feeling of helplessness caused him to snap. It's something we saw him go through throughout the series, whenever he felt like he was backed into a corner after someone he cared for was hurt or dead. His feeling of helplessness turned into pure rage. His SSJ2 transformation was basically his SSJ transformation, except turned up to 11. So I went with what most would consider his very own transformation, his moment, as by the time he walked out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, it was "Oh that's right, Gohan's a Super Saiyan now". Hell, Vegeta's was basically a flashback, and it still felt meaningful. And you're absolutely right about the Uncut Kai. It's probably the best version of DBZ ever.

Also, I gave the pity vote to Future Trunks, but for good reason. I feel his reason was very emotional, considering what he had to go through all his life. He wanted to go SSJ so he could have a chance to stop the Androids, but since he never actually experienced a tragic loss of a loved one before, he couldn't. It wasn't until Gohan, the only other person he had in his whole life besides his own mother, died, that he was able to transform.
It's ironic, since in a way, it was similar to when Gohan went SSJ2. Except IMO it felt more emotional since you just felt sorry for Trunks.

The History of Trunks is the darkest arc in the entire Dragonball franchise without question. It's a far cry from the original intent of the first Dragonball manga which was supposed to be a short-lived gag comic for Shonen Jump. Yet still, it never felt like it was that drastic a tone from the rest of the series to me. That's what makes it so good in my opinion.

I would have went with Vegeta but there is one reason that I cannot and that is because for all the emotion and struggle and burden he put on himself to attain that form...it is completely taken away by the fact not even what 5 episodes later (same day in the dbz world) he gets his ass royally handed to him by 18 and gets his arm broken..so for all his pride about attaining ssj it means nothing because it is shown to be useless against 17 and 18.
So for me it goes to SSJ2 GOHAN.
This was not only episodes but series arcs in the making since the beginning of Z , we constantly were shown in small spurts Gohans hidden potential and obvious intent for this to be something much more at some point...Fast forward to the Cell saga and an eruption of anger and just an all out ass kicking laid on Cell.

Yet still, it never felt like it was that drastic a tone from the rest of the series to me. That's what makes it so good in my opinion. In a world of adventure, humor, and hope, the History of Trunks was just...depressing. It was an alternate look into the series, one that asked "What if everything didn't always end with sunshine and rainbows?". There was no happy ending, just a grim reality (just basing off of the special, of course). I think that's why it's my favorite Dragonball movie/special. That, and I also really dig the Androids.
