3rd reply in. Steiner's law: As a thread about an obese wrestler on these forums grows longer, the probability of someone posting this video approaches 1.

Thread makes me want Tensai to have a Zoidberg gimmick.
That said, I enjoy his work.

He's over 40 and spent years in Japan 'perfecting his craft', we all know Japan is full of Brock Lesnars and Goldbergs so of course he's used to taking these crazy lifting moves.

The Florida crowd after WrestleMania screwed him by giving him no reaction and chanting for Daniel Bryan during his whole match They chanted "Welcome Back"... Yeah and then they started chanting "DANIEL BRYAN" for the rest of the match. My point is if he had a different crowd, he may have been able to get off on a good start

a crowd reaction has nothing to do with how silly his gimmick is.

a crowd reaction has nothing to do with how silly his gimmick is. But the silliness of the gimmick has a whole lot to do with how the crowd reacts.

They simply need to scrap the "Tensai" thing. To prevent the crowd from heckling him, they need to cover all of their bases by calling him "The Giant A-Train" Albert Bernard, formerly known as Tensai. Or they could mix-up all names and have him call himself "Lord Giant A-Tensai" and insist everyone to call him by his full name. Imagine it. Cena:"Look here Albert--" Tensai: "MY NAME IS LORD GIANT A-TENSAI" Cena:"...You are a giant A-something alright, but listen Giant A-Tensai--" Tensai:"YOU FORGOT TO ADD LORD" I need to see this.

Gimmick not suited for him, slow build that the fans grew impatient with, sadly his run back in the states has pretty much fallen under "Any possibly thing that can go wrong, will go wrong".
It's funny, in many ways he's had the run that so many of the IWC has feared one of their darlings like Punk or Daniel were going to get. Sad thing is, outside of Puro fans and mid-card marks, nobody really seems to care it's happened to him.
I still hold out hope he might be able to turn it around, but it's clear that unless something darn near supernatural happens, he's probably going to top out at best where he was last time in WWE. Upper mid-carder and US/IC title division competitor. Which is a shame, as if he had just allowed to be how he was in Japan, they could've had a ready made new hoss of a main eventer on their hands.

You mention a slow build... That didn't really happen. He literally went from beating Alex Riley and Yoshi Tatsu to beating John Cena semi-clean within 2 weeks. If anything, he got built too fast.

Perhaps I should've clarified, I meant slow build in terms of showing the audience of what he was capable of. They pretty much went the classic monster heel route with him. Having him start out slow and using few moves, dominating things. They were obviously building towards him gradually having to step up his game as things got more and more challenging for him. Unfortunately, with the crowd's reaction to it, it's clear they panicked and hit the abort button on that.

Hate to say it, but I think he's given up. If things had gone to pan, he should have been main eventing against Punk after a feud with Cena by now. Unfortunately, with a combo of bad execution of the gimmick and his dwindling motivation, he's gotta be on the cutback list by now.

Even though his current hard hitting, mean guy style is what he should be, people already know he's going to lose when he shows up, so no one views him as a threat. I'm wondering more on why he splattered Brodus and Ryback with that running senton. Brodus was too close to the ropes for Tensai to properly clear him, but he put his full weight down on him. On Raw, Ryback clearly had the wind knocked out him after that move.
