From what I heard, he's a dick. Not a "tell it like it is" guy or a non-ass kisser; he's a dick, straight up. No one's asking him to stand there and smile for the camera, but if you want to be the face of a company, or one of it's main faces, treat the fans like, I dunno, fans? You know, rather than treating them like some kind of slumdogs looking to take his stuff and sell it to the highest bidder. The line between straight shooter and Dick McAsshole is not all that thin.
Like the guy as a performer, but as a person, it sounds like he sucks.

The thought of a cranky insomniac flying all over the world is hilarious to me. Both him and Cena are missing off twitter this week, so they're somewhere. Good cop/bad cop.

I think he is indeed an asshole, as the old saying goes, the best characters are simply the real person turned up to 11, and he does that well as a Heel, so there you go.
My complain is he is still acting like himself as a Face, and he's very unlikeable as one.

I remember a few years ago during his ROH on the old Punk board he did a Q&A once and I referred to him by his real name. I figured being a smark kind of a board he wouldn't mind, forgetting his old school mentality to the business. He kinda ripped on that mentioning a rant by Raven around that subject.
To me, he's a straight up guy who will be brutally dickish to people whether they warrant it or not (in my case I probably did a little). Again, didn't really matter since it was a typed response. Yet, a few years later he's happy to refer to himself by Phil Brooks during a promo with Vince. Different scenario but alas.
Apart sharing our mutual love for The Bouncing Souls, I'm not sure I'd totally want to meet him at a wrestling related event.

I just view him as someone who has a dry sarcastic sense of humor honestly. I wouldn't mind hanging out with him as I wouldn't act like a fanboy to him. He probably is the type of person who rather talk about music, film, comic books, and life rather than wrestling.
What people need to understand is in a business where you're in an entertainment field, performing in front of lots of fans, making money, interviews, and etc you get a lot of insanity with people wanting to come around you all the time. I remember I met Katt Williams once at my local mall.
How he kept his cool with people constantly hounding him for a picture and trapping him in a bath and bodyworks shop is beyond me. I just simply said "Hey Katt, how are you doing?" and he responded with "Good, thanks." I didn't bother him nor did I hound him. Punk is the type of guy who is brutally, brutally honest and doesn't hold back what he thinks.

In my experience, "I'm just a blunt person who speaks my mind" is almost always code-speak for "I want a free license to be an asshole to people but still want to have those same people worship me."
So yeah, Punk does seem like a douchebag to me. He's entertaining as all hell, but I have a hard time trying to come up with a single out-of-ring story with him that wasn't about how much of an asshole he is, whether the stories are funny or not. I can understand being tired and being on the road all the time and being an insomniac... but you can tell the difference between someone who is just worn down and someone who is an ass because they are an ass.
That said, I don't know the guy personally. All I can judge him on are third or fourth hand stories that may not be true at all. So he may be a stellar guy to be around who just gets gossiped about. But a lot of people seem to have the attitude that a guy like House is an awesome person who isn't bound by a weakness like tact or empathy, and that's just bullshit.

There's a difference beween an asshole and someone who has a dry sense of humor. I edited my post. Ultimately, I can't say I know anything about Punk and whether or not he really acts like the stories I've heard, since they're all third or fourth hand. But you're right, and there's a difference between having a dry sense of humor and treating people like crap and calling it a joke. I know people of both ilks, and to be frank... you can really tell the difference between them before too long. Talk to them for 10 minutes and you can tell which people are witty and which are just wanting to be House.

The only time I haven't heard him come across as a dick is when he's talking to his friends or a woman he wanted to/did sleep with...so yea.
I still like him as a wrestler/character though--I'd draw the line if he was so horrible to work with that it caused a problem in the locker room/allowed him to walk all over Creative a la HBK in the 90s.

You guys have to take this into account though: Punk (and every other WWE wrestler) are on the road more than 2/3 of a year. They wake up in a hotel room, get in a car and drive to the airport, get on a long flight, land, get a hotel room, wrestle their asses off, go crash in the hotel... and start it all over again tomorrow. It is a rough life and I can imagine coming off as a dick if I had people constantly asking wrestling-based questions, when all I want to do is just chill out for a few hours. It would be like any career with fans, they always want to know this or that or have you do this or that for them... It comes with the territory, but I can imagine getting tired of it sometimes. If you want to go into this territory, I can easily give you a positive flipside: He's getting paid shit-tons of money to travel the world and be an idol for wrestling fans of all ages (men, women, and children), he's had a great career in WWE, and probably receives more opportunities and perks than we can think of. I understand that it can be difficult on the road, but look at the dozens of positives of Punk's career. This isn't some poor, unloved jobber we are talking about; this is a guy who has held every major title and is worshiped by thousands, if not millions, around the globe. I'm really having trouble feeling too sorry for him when he entered this line of work and others (like Cena) can handle themselves just fine.

I like Cliff Compton(Domino's) retelling of when he first met punk is funny, although he kinda confirms that EVERYone who first meets him thinks he is a jerk.

After a house show they did in Biloxi about two years ago a friend of mine said some of the wrestlers came into the IHOP down the street from the Arena, I want to say it was Kofi, CM Punk, and somebody else whose name escapes me..
But he said all the other WWE guys there wonderful, but Punk sat there the whole time with his hands in his pockets and his hood on top of his head not talking to anybody..
I think he is as real as the come character and wrestling wise.. Kind of like a throwback to the old days of wrestling, where guys played their charactr 24/7

This sure is a ton of "yeah I heard this dude's a dick" with no stories, no first-hand accounts (besides one that said he was "distant", which isn't the worst thing in the world), just "yeah I don't think I'd like him because I heard he's a dick'.

Well he does admit that everyone has a "CM Punk was a douche when I first met him" story
I don't think its a thing when he views fans in general as marks and treats specifically treats them like something you scrape off your shoe since from all accounts he is the same to wrestlers
I dunno, he does have some friends (i.e. Cabana etc. who seems a lot different personality wise) so he can't be a total douche surely

What I would like to know is...Has anyone on here actually met him and if so can they confirm this or not? Cause so far it just seems like a bunch of people going well I heard from so and so he is dick when what it sounds like at times is him just being a smartass and imagine as long as you don't freak out on him he would probably be cool to you.

If that's the case, then what you heard doesn't really cut it either But yeah, unless it's about a show or in someone's book, everything we talk about amounts to "I heard" with varying stages of belief and disbelief. That's just the nature of message boards.

Punk seems like one of those people you can't really judge unless you know him. He seems like he's kind of an acquired taste. You might not like him off the bat, but after getting to know him, you can't help but to like him.
