I remember a few years ago during his ROH on the old Punk board he did a Q&A once and I referred to him by his real name. I figured being a smark kind of a board he wouldn't mind, forgetting his old school mentality to the business. He kinda ripped on that mentioning a rant by Raven around that subject. ...Yet, a few years later he's happy to refer to himself by Phil Brooks during a promo with Vince. Different scenario but alas. Most wrestlers consider it very disrespectful (borderline insulting) for fans to call them by their real name. So I don't really think he was being dickish about that at all.

I'm seeing a lot of "he must get hounded by fans a lot so I can understand his dickishness" comments.
And honestly? To that I say, boo-friggidy-hoo.
It's the nature of the buisness he's in. He wanted to be a big star, he got it. I'm not denying that it's gotta be overwhelming to have so many fans, but if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. "Oh no, people like me! What ever will I do?!".
John Cena probably has it ten times worse than Punk, and by all accounts is one of the nicest people in the wrestling industry.
That said, I guess he's a modern day HBK in that regard. Loved as a performer, not so much as a person.

am i the only one who thinks punk comes off like an arrogant prick in out of charachter promos, tweets, interviews ect. Nope, it gets referenced time to time. As an arrogant prick myself it just makes me like him more. He's more snarky than anything though, everything he says is tongue in cheek. This. The main reason he's my favorite wrestler is because of his personality. I'm a very similar and like-minded individual, and I love that there's finally a superstar in WWE who feels relatable to me. On a side note, it's for this reason that I sometimes feel awkward on the board when I see people talking about what a prick Punk seems like.

I've listened to at least two pretty long interviews of his that are out of character, and I honestly did not get one ounce of "arrogance" out of what I heard. He's confident in his abilities, but he's not the type that will brag about how awesome he is. He WILL say when he thinks something sucks, be it an angle or a wrestler. He's pretty blunt, and he's not always correct/fair in the things he's blunt about, his criticism of the Rock specifically I disagreed with, but him being honest about his feelings doesn't make him arrogant or a jerk in my book. You can be wrong without being an asshole.
As for him not being the friendliest guy to fans, I can totally relate to that. An introverted person finds interaction with people draining. Maybe it's not that he thinks he's so much better than everyone, he might just be mentally FRIED from constantly dealing with people all the time. John Cena is obviously extroverted, so its not going to be AS big a problem for him.
And being introverted doesn't make you a dick. Judging someone for being introverted might though.

We don't know him personally, so we shouldn't say if he's a dick or not.

Hit the nail on the head. He probably is very introverted, which is cool with me because I'm the same way and I find interacting with people to be exhausting. When I do interact, though, I tend to be pretty nice... maybe that's where he and I differ. Haven't met him for myself, so I can't really say.

I'm highly introverted myself, so I too can relate to some degree. I'm not the WWE Champion though. Like it or not, Punk is the current face of a company where fan interaction is key. He knows what he got himself into when he broke into the buisness, surely. I have no sympathy for him if he doesn't like having to deal with people, its part of his job as main eventer. Look at all the big names of each era (Hogan, Austin, Rock, Cena). They knew how to involve the fans and I think that's a big part of why they're seen as the greats. And honestly, judging by his Twitter I definitely DO get more of a "I'm too good for you" vibe than an introverted one.

I just think its harsh to say "he's a dick" because he doesn't want to talk to fans while he's scarfing down dinner at Denny's at midnight. That's not part of his job. The attention is something that comes with the job, sure, but how he handles that attention is his business. As long as he's not cursing out fans or beating them up for bothering him, I don't see any problem. Anyway, he's the WWE Champion. He's gotten this far by being who he is, so he can't be all that bad. He never gets in any trouble or makes the company look bad, save for the incident with the gay slur at a house show. You take the bad with the good.

Punk seems like the kind of guy that after a movie if you and him are walking out of the theater, never talked ever in your lives, and you said "that movie sucked ass, I haven't seen anything that bad since a 1990s Sinbad comedy special" he would agree with you and then he'd be open to talk about the movie and other talk such as other movies, you'd get him. He's the kind of guy that if you share some interests then he'd be alright but if you don't then he's not. He's a wrestler but at the same time he doesn't seem to be as open as Cena would be. Everyone's different though. He isn't completely open but at the same time I'm sure he's not like some true dick people are saying. He's probably close to himself, very blunt, probably has sense of humor most people wouldn't get (such as some of his rants)" and other things. I mean it is what it is. I agree with the guy up there who said when interacting I try to be nice, I mean I do but Punk probably let's it all hang out. I'm not the kind of person who let's people see my emotions, I keep that to myself but Punk doesn't care.
I'm sure he's a good guy once you get past that barrier but if you can't then he probably seems like a true dick to you. I'm sure we all know a few guys who were like that in high school but once you became their friend you thought "Even though he shouldn't have did that to her he's overall a friend to me". I mean we've all met people like that.

Are there any positive stories of Punk meeting fans? I've heard plenty of stories of the guy being a dick to people (or "dryly sarcastic", if you must) but I can't recall one story of Punk going out of his way to make a fan feel special.

Yeah, I get a certain vibe off of him... he loves performing, and when people are part of an audience, THAT is when he loves them and plays to them and has a feeling of emotional connection. But trying to interact one on one with those same people weirds him out, makes him uncomfortable, and he'd frankly rather not.
I see that as a problem for a babyface wrestler. Turn him heel and keep him as such, and you get the benefit of the performer with the added benefit of a guy who isn't going to endear himself to anyone outside the ring, strengthening the kayfabe of the in-ring character.

Honestly, Punk reminds me of a pre-children HHH.
He really doesn't like being around the fans, and can't resist tearing people (anybody) apart if he sees even the slightest opening to. There's a small circle of people that he's extremely close to (and who probably don't mind taking shots across the bow from him), and he'd just like everyone else to piss off and die (I think he's a bit more abrasive than HHH, in that regard).
He thinks extraordinarily highly of himself, and doesn't really have the desire or the temperment to be as gregarious as a Cena, Miz, Jericho, or Big Show. Instead, he covers it with detached, above-you-all, "Rebellious" snark. From a distance, people love to watch him take aim and fire away at people. When his sights are trained on you, though...
That's the impression that I get.

IMO, he loves the fans WHEN HE'S WORKING. When he's not, he doesn't want to be bothered.
I've seen mention of people approaching him while he's taking a leak.

I haven't met him, but I have a friend that's been straight-edge for a long time (before any of us even knew who Punk is.)
But in all honesty, my buddy might seem like a class-A dbag, but he actually doesn't like dealing with the stupidity that comes with a lot of people and hates dealing with hypocrisy. That's why he distances himself from people. He says some pretty messed up stuff about how people act (and a lot of it's true), but he's a good friend. He's straight-forward and honest, sometimes brutally honest. We disagree on a lot o stuff, but a lot of people misunderstand him. He's not the type that goes around kissing people's butts in a superficial show or pretend to like to be around someone when he doesn't care for that person. I think that's the way it is with Punk. If you're in his circle, things are cool. You don't hear people in his inner circle talking crap about him. A lot of times, it's just self-entitled fans.
Society nowadays needs thicker skin. People are becoming pansies.
