If the whole point was to make people not like him, weren't there any other ways to do that, much better ones?
Imagine Jake the Snake doing that in the 80's cause he was a heel, being all smiles and having the crowd cheer him for 10 minutes.

Okay..maybe I'm a little slow on the mental draw, but everybody is saying 'This is so brilliant! I see it now!" and no one is following that up by explaining what it is that they're seeing. Can someone please explain to me the whole meaning behind this, because I don't get it.. (That's just an honest question, not sarcasm) The only thing I can figure out is that he's the puppet master and everyone else is the puppet. I guess? Well it is similar to trolling. He sets up everyone to cheer for him just like the formula has been for his character and then he flips it. In this case it is the bait and switch where you make the other person feel like a fool. Think of an ex that you are still sweet on returning and sending signals of liking you only to mock you when you finally meet back up. What he is demonstrating is how easily manipulated the fans are and how easily he had them in the palm of his hand and how merrily he could brush them off. Something to that effect is what was going on. And he kept doing his little "COME ON BABAY!!!!!" shtick to get reaction until they finally realized he wasn't being sincere.

WWE tried something different and I loved it.
Just like the 2/21/11 videos last year ended with two guys coming out and making a Wrestlemania main event match without even saying a word and had the crowd in the palm of their hands the whole time. That takes a skill that very few people could pull off. Those guys did it last year and Jericho did it last night, imo. He has us all asking so many questions already.
I’m looking forward to seeing where his new character goes.

I get the impression that people are kinda reacting to this like they do with Michael Cole. They don't like or got annoyed by what happened therefore it's bad and a detriment to the show. Or they got annoyed therefore it worked perfectly.
To be clear, I hate Cole and wish he was off my tv, as i mute him or ff as I watch. The Jericho thing however, I loved.

I wouldn't be shocked if Jericho came out next week in his formal suit and starts off his promo with something like, "Happy now? Is that what you want? Some preening parasite pandering to your pedantic pleas for positive reinforcement?" The problem with this is that he has stated he does not want to do something he has done before. And, serious Jericho is a character that the IWC eats right up. He's already proven to us that he wants us to hate him on Twitter.

He's John Cena. I love it. Good point. He's basically took the worst parts of John Cena's character and turned it all the way up to 20.

Come on, the guy was known as both a wiseass dude and this condescending intelligent manipulator, and all he can think of doing for his return is to run around like a moron?

(That's just an honest question, not sarcasm) The only thing I can figure out is that he's the puppet master and everyone else is the puppet. I guess? I think it's brilliant because they can go in several directions with it: 1. Jericho continues to obnoxiously pander to the crowd, which would basically be mocking the faces like Cena, Air Boom, D-Bry, and even Punk. He eventually admits to this, saying that he was shoving himself down the fans' throats (sounds wrong, I know) just like the WWE shoves the "PG" faces down everyone's throats. 2. Same as above, but Jericho is absolutely clueless and thinks the crowd actually loves him. Does over the top stuff (a la the ring jacket last night) just because he thinks he deserves it. Think delusional Hollywood heel. 3. Serious Jericho immediately makes a return next week. He cuts a promo on how fickle the WWE fans are. He can talk about how the crowd was cheering when Orton punted him off WWE TV, but now they're excited to see him? He could go even further and say that his return on 1/2/2012 was a representation of his WWE career. The fans (or casual fans) love him and cling to him at first, but eventually they grow tired of him and want him to fall to the Cenas, Ortons, and Punks.

Hold up Hold up Hold up... There are people that don't like Chris Jericho? Not many. But he still gets boos from the more casual fans. I think he'll use that to play up the whole unappreciated card.

Yeah, the same way you ask for something different from seafood or beef and get tofu. There are other alternatives out there besides that. It just comes off as lazy in retrospect.

Actually, the condscending intelligent maniuplator was out in full force last night. He intelligently manipulated the fans in a condescending fashion. Honestly, he couldn't have done anything to make more people hate him than what he did. Screw cheap heat, this is fancy heat.

I think some of you are overplaying how loud the boos were. The cheers were transforming into mild boos but it wasn't Rock in Toronto heat or anything.
Jericho's just a difficult man to boo. I wish him luck in his quest to get everyone to hate him, honestly.

I wish him luck in his quest to get everyone to hate him, honestly. Half of the crowd didn't know how to react to it. The same can be said for this board. I think if he either keeps up the act next week or comes out and cuts a promo on how stupid the fans are, he'll get the reaction we're hoping for. Maybe I'm just an optimist, but I'm surprised so many people are hating this return! It was eerie, creepy, and confusing. Just like those 1/2/12 promos.

I watched last night (my first Raw since the build to Wrestlemania) just for this, though I expected Jericho.
I got where they were going with it, and thought it was kind of neat. Then it went on another 5 to 7 minutes and I began to wonder why I hadn't changed the channel. I'm kind of curious about exactly what he'll do next week, but between the overkill of this segment and not really digging anything on the rest of the show very much, I doubt I'll watch to find out.
Which has ultimately been my complain with WWE for a while: they'll do something that catches my interest, then they lose it.

Jericho's brought his Twitter personality to the WWE.
His Twitter personality is what put me off Jericho coming back in the first place.
I know the reasons, I know the methods but...yeah, I'm not interested.
