How many times can you put The Joker in Arkham before you learn your lesson? And blackgate is a joke prison. Wolverine kills and you don't see his enemies coming back to haunt him. Cause their dead! Batman needs to tighten up.

Batman needs to tighten up. No, Wolvie's foes come back form the dead and escalate and kill way more people than ever before just to get to him.

Batman has a hero complex.
He gets off on stopping bad guys over and over again

Well if you're talking comics, you can't to well have a five book series over and done with because your protagonist just handles his business, can you?
It's the same reason they never outright kill James Bond.
Bats is smart, capable and has all the tech and contacts he should ever need to end all crime ever, not even just in Gotham. They created him when? If you dropped his leash, this would most definently be a utopia by now.

Because then he'd just be the Punisher.

If he kills, then he becomes no different than the criminals he fights.

I don't think GPD would like that

Forget Batman. There's been about 17 heroes in Gotham or hang out in Gotham (pre-reboot). You mean to tell me even that hasn't helped improve s***?

Then the only villains he could fight would be cosmic villains, and he already fights them in JLA and crossovers.

I thought about this the other day playing Arkham City.
If he would kill the guys it would make it easier for me when have to keep going back into the Steel Mills for fetch quests. I wouldn't have to take out 8 guys with machine guns silently everytime i need to go into Joker's hideout.
But it does explain why the population in Arkham city never shrinks.

Yeah, it's total bullshit. I don't buy the "no different from those he fights" argument. Once someone releases a toxic nerve gas storm on an orphanage, it's not bad kharma to kill them.

If he kills, then he becomes no different than the criminals he fights. So if Batman had killed Joker during No Man's Land, when Joker would have already murdered possibly hundred's of people since the reboot of the 80's, he'd be just as bad? Nah. Actually, the whole No Man's Land arc was ruined for me because of this. {Spoiler}The Joker commits ANOTHER murder, this time killing a cop and Jim Gordan's wife. He's surrounded by cops in a land with no legit government, so Jim shoots him in the knee and they arrest him. I have no idea why one of those cops wouldn't have snapped and just did what actually needed to be done. I understand from a comics perspective, but they shouldn't have created a scene where the police are all around him ready to fire, and Batman said he wouldn't interfere with what they did to Joker if they didn't want me to feel this way.

You know, the justice system should be dealing with these criminals, the likes of the Joker should have been given the death penalty years ago,Batman isnt a murderer and trusts in the law to deal with these villains once he catches them.

Joker DID get the death penalty...then Batman proved he was framed for this ONE murder in particular (ignoring dozens of others) so he got him pardoned from execution (Joker: Devil's Advocate).

You know, I just realized, I don't think I ever seen them hand out medication at Arkham Asylum.
Seeing how it is a place for insane people, you'd think they would have them on a shit load of pills.
Granted yes the inmates could use tricks to avoid taking their medicine, but still.
When you think about it, Arkham Asylum is usually presented as just another prison, just filled with psychiatrists.

Which brings up a problem, Joker gets the death penalty for one murder he didn't do, but not for the hundreds if not thousands he has?

I thought the idea was as much that as much as it was that if he started killing, Batman knows that he is so crazy that he would become a villain himself.

*Joker breaks out of Arkham*
*Batman catches him*
Gordon: What should we do with him now?
Batman: Well, I guess we'll just put him back in the same place that he's already broken out of a thousand times before. I mean, what are the odds that he'll do it again?
