More surprised that people here aren't questioning Punk's amusing (but failed) attempt to get Miz into a shoot-off. Is the chip on his shoulder that big these days? Well when miz tells punk to bring his best "pipe bon " and then miz doesn't bring his, of course it'll look awkward. Yeah, that was clearly the point of the whole segment, going by what Miz was saying about pipe bons(bombs) and live mics. It's not Punk's fault that Miz couldn't keep up with him.

extremely lame. A "your mom" joke is hacky enough, but the "OOOOOHHHHHH!" afterwards was just painful
between that and saying "walrus" every four seconds, all he was missing was a "that's what she said" to really cement the trilogy of failure

Maybe he was trying to channel Kurt Angle?

I thought Miz did a good job. While Punk put all of Miz's flaws out there, I felt that Miz was dismissing Punk as "Whoopdeedoo, Punk is shooting, what else is new?" Miz basically pulled off a shoot in his own right. To me, Miz, without even directly pointing it out, made the statement that he can play a better CHARACTER while Punk has to break kayfabe and use insider references to draw any type of interest.

Miz is the most annoying "babyface" in recent memory. He was so horrible on Raw that it almost seemed like they were going for a double turn with Miz and Punk. As Punk was so on the money with the insults he shot Miz's way.

I've seen so many responses to the segment. Whoever's side you're on it was fascinating television.

I love Punk but he looked desperate out there. I liked the fact Punk tried to get it all heated and Miz just shoots off a Yo momma joke basically

It fit both characters perfectly. Punk was trying to be the loose cannon, trying to start serious shit, and Miz was just brushing him off the whole time. Even Heyman threatening Miz with the idea of Punk having a live mic was great. The Yo Momma joke along with the sarcastic "OOOOHHH" after cemented it. Both guys came out of that looking good.

The problem with The Miz is the problem with just about every WWE face. Creative believes the best way to get the crowd behind someone is not through a deep character or by being somewhat relatable, it's by sinking them to the lowest common denominator and making them into nothing more than muscular, oiled up Jeff Dunhams.
The reason The Rock's return the past few years was so monumental was because when he was around, he was considered a "cool" character, but in this day and age, compared to John Cena and Sheamus, he's the friggin' Fonz. The problem is The Rock used immature jokes and puns to get over with the audience, and creative looked at that method and has now applied it to just about every single face.
With Leather's Brandon Stroud wrote an absolutely phenomenal takedown of Sheamus from the Sept. 10 edition of Raw, specifically the god-awful deposition with David Otunga and Ricardo Rodriguez. What he said could essentially be applied to a majority of the current faces in the company:
Spot on.
That's the biggest problem with faces. Whenever John Cena marches to the ring without that dimwitted smile or that goofy salute and he MEANS BUSINESS, we know we're in for a good promo. Cena can deliver good material, it's just that he so rarely gets the opportunity because he's so often dancing out with that stupid grin on his face whether he just won the WWE Championship or was put through a table, ready to tell juvenile poop jokes that the most base wrestling fans would appreciate.
Sheamus was an awesome face for about a month in the summer of 2011, when he was an Irish badass who just wanted to beat the snot out of Mark Henry. Then he got to cracking wise, crossed paths with Hornswoggle and became Irish Cena and we detest him for it.
People look down on professional wrestling because they think it's hillbilly, lowest common denominator garbage and when they see John Cena mocking Antonio Cesaro's nipples or Sheamus making Lipschitz jokes or The Miz breaking out a "Your mom" joke, they're right about the product. That's why so many people want to cheer the heels, because you don't see CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes or Damien Sandow snickering when someone says "diary" because it sounds like "diarrhea".

I thought it was funny personally.
If he did it every week it would be lame. The fact that it was unexpected made it funny to me.

The whole segment was purely Miz trying to (and succeeding) get under Punk's skin. The joke worked fine within the context.

Where, in the sixth circle of hell did you get that from? The sixth circle is filled with Heretics so I don't think the poster got it from there. It sounds more along the lines of fraud, so he probably found it somewhere in the eighth circle.
