What I still can't and probably will never understand are the people who genuinely get horrifically upset over the stupidity of the product, or who act like their favorite wrestlers "losing" scripted matches is some terrible miscarriage of justice. Because we are emotionally invested in some characters.

I think people are always going to be upset about something that's happening in the WWE. I'm not saying that to be cynical, I'm just saying very few (if there are some) are going to like everything storyline/match/promo/etc. throughout the entire show. I mean, I think the closest I was with being happy about everything going on in WWE was after TLC last year, because I wanted to see succeed were doing just that. I'm sure there was something that I thought could have been done better, but the good outweighed the bad so much I don't remember it. At the same time though, I'm sure there were people that didn't like what was going on after TLC last year.
Fast forward to now. Sure, I'm not entirely happy with everything that's going on in WWE, mainly how most of the faces seem to be acting like dicks (mainly Sheamus, Miz (though he's supposed to be) and Kofi), and I personally think Ryback is getting too much too soon (but I can see why, considering how over he is). That's quite a bit I don't like. But at the same time, there's still a lot of stuff I do enjoy about the show, like how the tag team division is re-surging (I'm especially enjoying the PTPs and Rhodes Scholars), and how great Cesaro as been lately in ring (though it wouldn't hurt to do more with his character).
Basically, at the end of the day, there's always going to be stuff I don't like that's going on. At the same time, there's always going to be stuff I like to (generally) balance it out. Are there times when there's a lot of bad and I get really annoyed? Definitely, and there have been a few Raws over the past year that got me to that point. But at the same time, there are going to be Raws/PPVs that get to that high point where I'm really into it and wanting there to be more (most recent example was Raw after Mania this year). But no matter what's going on, there will always be something that keeps me coming back for more.

It's like this.
The wrestling's good to great. The wrestlers are usually at least interesting & at best charismatic as hell.
It's the writing. The writing is what gets me most of the time.
So the wrestlers and the wrestling are good enough for me to continue to watch and hope the writing gets better.
A show I used to watch was LIE TO ME, when it was on. I would NOT have watched that show if not for Tim Roth being cool as hell. Tim Roth was that show for me - there were a lot of things wrong with it, but it didn't deter me from watching.

I've never not watched wrestling, there have been down times and sh***y moments, but I'm a fan regardless. Wrestling has been one of the only things that has been a constant in my life, and it will always be no matter what the product is like. I guess I'm a wrestling addict. Same here. When I go through periods of not being interested, like now or back in 2009, I still leave it on but just as background noise so I won't miss anything important and I get the jist of what's going on.

Honestly, the Raw threads here are the only reason I still watch Raw every week.

If it reached the point where the cons outweighed the pros, I'll stop watching. It happened with TNA last year.
The WWE is weird though in that it can have terrible and amazing things going at once. Right now I'd say I enjoy more than I dislike.
I like to think that's why many of us still watch, because it's a gamble.

To be fair, we're not the only ones. Have you guys seen the Supernatural fandom on sites like tumblr? It's almost exactly the same as these boards sometimes.

2) Why do you watch if you hate the product?

Many of us watch in the hope that WWE will improve. And maybe we enjoy some things while disliking some others. This is actually the most positive wrestling forum that I've ever been a member of. And I've been part of the "IWC" since 1998.
People who are fans of everything online bash it from time to time. Hell, one of the main forums for the show "Survivor" is called "Survivor Sucks". And the main "fan" forums for Howard Stern's show constantly bash Howard and his wife Beth. People on IMDb bitch about movies.
That's just how the internet has always been.

Much like any show or fictional construct that I used to love but has since gotten terrible (The Office, Star Wars), I like to keep tabs. Having such a large emotional investment in that world, even the world of professional wrestling, isn't something you can easily shake off, and I want to know what's still going on even if my heart isn't in it anymore. Plus, there's always the possibility that the ship will be righted and the magic will be recaptured again.
This isn't something like Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, which I would never give the time of day because I know I would find it excruciating. When professional wrestling is at its best (WCW, WWF, and ECW in the late '90s), there's nothing else quite like it. I know WWE is capable of being better. I'd love for them to prove me right.

I don't hate the product, I just hate certain parts of it. I've learned to skip what I don't like. That works but I'd prefer a product that I enjoy thoroughly.

This board wouldn't exist if people didn't talk about what they didn't like, so I don't mind it. I don't like the idea of people questioning who is a fan or not based on the amount of complaining though. Just seems silly to me.

2) Why do you watch if you hate the product? Conversely, if a lot of those same people who complain on the internet who still end up watching the shows and buying the merchandise and purchasing pay-per-view events just one day stopped doing that altogether, I think it would be quite noticeable come WWE's quarter-earnings reports. Imagine how quiet a Wrestlemania show would be without all the smart fans who continue to chant "YES!" an hour after watching a squash match and who still boo the top babyface of the company out of the building when he's represented onscreen as the ultimate do-gooder for the WWE name. Or in the only terms WWE understands, imagine not making a million dollar gate because the so-called internet fans decided to stay home and not spend their money (remember when Lesnar got booed out of the building at Wrestlemania 20?)

Well, you never when a product might get must see. Heck, I've been loving TNA this year so it happens.
If I had given up in '95-'96, I probably would've missed 1997...and that would've SUCKED!

I watch because there is always something on every show that I like - a match, a segment, a promo etc. With the sheer amount of talent they have on the roster at the moment, I know there'll always be something I'll enjoy.

DVR is the best thing to happen to me as a wrestling fan. I would indeed stop watching if I didn't have one but my own 1-Hour to 90-minute RAWS are pretty damn good...well, watchable at least

Most of us have a deep emotional attachment that's been with us since childhood, as others have said we've experienced highs while watching and will always want to get that feeling back. Wrestling unique nature makes it unlike other TV shows, when Foley, Eddie or Christian won their first titles there was a real-life element to it that you don't get watching Mad Men.
Then you have things like the Undertaker and his streak, a storyline that has been built for over two decades from our childhoods to adult life, what (other than sport) can compete with that? Of course we're going to want to see how it ends.
Things like the Bret Hart and HBK hugging it out in the ring combine the real life element and angles that last more than a decade.
There's nothing really like wrestling, if you no longer enjoy a police procedural, quiz show, supernatural drama or sit-com there's plenty of alternatives for you turn to but with wrestling there's pretty much just TNA which is usually worse (if we're talking about televised shows).
Finally there's nearly always something to enjoy and as Paco says DVR makes it easy to just watch those segments.
Oh and for point 1 a lot of people watch shows based on potential and past glories.

I can understand watching out of a sense of obligation, however much I disagree with that (but then, I still watch 'The Simpsons' despite thinking it's become bland, so who am I to talk?), or because despite whatever it's faults you find it entertaining enough to be worth your time.
What confuses me is people who hate what the product has become, but watch it in the hopes it can change again. Change in a wrestling show is usually forced because of something like low ratings and decline in business, so continuing to support the show flies right in the face of that. If you want to help get wrestling to change, it'd make more sense to stop watching and paying.
Because if you continue to support it despite not wanting to, then why should WWE listen to anything you want? They've already got your money and viewership.

Because it's still better than most of the crap on television. So many scripted shows are so cliche and formulaic and unoriginal. Well, pro wrestling is too but at least it lets me watch people pretend to punch each other in the face. You don't always get that with other shows.
Plus I find pro wrestling to be hilarious, especially when it's silly and bad.
