Ah, I used to look through flyers and catalogs all the time during Christmas, hoping I'd get a lot of the games shown.
Cut to 10+ years later, when I now own most of the ones I wanted

People complain about prices of video games nowadays, despite the fact that they cost less now than they did back then, despite inflation. Mario 64 for $60. Hell, I remember seeing DKC 2 go for $70 when it came out.

Hell, I remember seeing DKC 2 go for $70 when it came out. Actually, in one of the pages not posted here, they had NBA Hangtime (along with a couple other games) for $70. It's even crazier when you take inflation into account.

Wow, $70 for Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. You would still think that by the end of the Genesis' life that things would have been cheaper. Such was not the case. I can probably get those games for dirt cheap now.

I think 1997 was the final year that scratchy "rad skater" font was frequently used in kids' marketing.
The Saturn had such a great library. Shame the initial release was so bungled.

What's up with that cover to Twisted Metal 2? I've never seen one like that before.
EDIT: And is it wrong that I actually have more interest in playing these days than I do current ones?

Wow! I remember getting these ads in the mail and circling the things I'd like for Christmas.
I remember wanting a Sega Saturn so bad, but when I finally got one it didn't work. So instead of grabbing a new one, my grandfather bought an N64 instead. Bullet dodged haha.

My parents paid $70 for FFIII for the SNES.
And I graduated High School in 1997. When I graduated HS the SNES was still being sold. -__-

Thanks for posting this.
I remember this very ad, because I had to decide between whether I wanted a Playstation or the Saturn for Christmas that year. I picked the Saturn because I was able to get those 3 free games. I regretted my decision, and ended up saving up my money and buying a Playstation just a few months later.
