Taking away points for being muscular or big is lame.

Eh, it doesn't matter if he's anything new or special, as long as the crowd goes nuts for him...that's all that matters. I can only name maybe a dozen or so wrestlers who were "new" or "special", and we haven't had one of those in 15 years. You seriously forgot the Age of Kizarny?

Forgive me if I say I really do not get all the Ryback hate on the forum. Sure, his gimmick is blatantly cut out of the mould of Goldberg-but so what? Just about every wrestling character is a redo of one that we have already seen a million times already. I get the impression that all it really boils down to is that he is gettign a mega-push instead of a FAN darling like Daniel Bryan or Ziggler. Or they just dont like him

I can get that people don't like the guy, but the "CM Punk/Daniel Bryan/INDY GUY" is the change, not Ryback", just reeks to me.
Like it or not Ryback is unique, especially now. Its fashionable to semi shoot, or whine about your 'spot in the company' these days. Hell, even the Shield is kinda based on that. Someone who just destroys is a welcome change of pace.

"PUNK, YOU'RE BIG NASTY BASTARD AND YOUR MAMA SAID SO!" Punk, im gonna beat you, CUZ IM BIZZAH! (or if he's a big Jack Tunney fan): Punk, your actions lately have been heinous. Therefore, i have come to the decision that i must face you one on one. Furthermore, Paul Heyman will be banned from ringside or risk permanent suspension. Ryback needs to get hit on the head and start thinking he's Jack Tunney.

How is he unique? It feels like the 15-16 months on Smackdown have been booked around "large ass kicking guy, or maybe two of them at the same time."

Ryback seems unique to me. Can't really put my finger on why, but when I watch him I don't feel like I'm watching Goldberg, or anyone else from before. That's just opinion though.
Ryback has also given what I think is the most mature(not dirty) line I can remember with "Revenge is a confession of pain. I am not hurt, I am hungry."

Is the "Owen Hart" comment really that offensive? I thought Ryback was supposed to big himself up as a big deal.

Its like I said, his approach is refreshing to me. Pipe Bomb CM Punk, whined about not getting opportunities like Cena. About how he should have been the top guy before but POLITICS~ stopped it. The Shield, here to right the wrongs and primarily took out Ryback because they thought he was getting oppurtunities and it wasn't fair, primarily to Punk. Hell, in TNA, Austin Aries pretty much did the Punk/Cena deal with Jeff Hardy not long ago. It just seems like this thing, along with numerous "Power struggle" angles is the trend. The "new guard' is being held back by the big bad WWE and they're ANGRY!!! I can get the appeal, but meh. Ryback just wins matches, destroys people, and thats why he gets what he gets. Simple. Makes the matches mean more to me.

I felt the line was a hint at a future Ryback/Cena program where Cena passes the torch ala Hogan/Warrior at WM 6.

Is the "Owen Hart" comment really that offensive? I thought Ryback was supposed to big himself up as a big deal. Of course not, because Ryback hasn't earned the right to big himself up. It doesn't matter if he grew up loving professional wrestling. It doesn't matter how hard he's willing to work. It doesn't matter if he has all the heart and drive in the world, and as long as he's over 250 pounds with that muscle mass, it probably never will. Simply put, there is a constituency out there that couldn't care less how much passion someone has if they don't have a martial arts background or haven't proven themselves on the independent circuit.

Taking away points for being muscular or big is lame. Agreed. Did anyone read my list of the smaller or technical or amateur wrestling background wrestlers who won either the WHC and WWE Championship the past 8 years? Now compare that list to the bigger muscular guys and it's quite different. Hell I omitted JBL, Mark Henry, and The Big Show and they aren't very muscular.

I don't like the implication that my dislike of Ryback is based on some indy mentality or desire to reject the status quo or any of that. I just think he's a sub-par wrestler with sub-par mic skills and a terrible finisher. I don't see anything about him to like, and I don't enjoy having people explain away my opinions just because I prefer someone like CM Punk.

I've been quoting With Leather's Brandon Stroud a lot recently, but it's just because he's so damn right all the time. Here's his take on Ryback quoting Owen Hart in his weekly "Best and Worst of Raw" column: Years and Years later, and B. is still an asshole.

I don't give a crap about having some independent background, I think Rollins is bad, I think Aries is terrible, and I miss Batista a lot, the thing is, I hate his promos and he can't do a match, he can do clotheslines though, and also, making yourself big is ok, but the change thing from "The Vince guy" is total BS, and if Punk said something about being the strongest guy in the locker room when he was a face, someone would've made the same thread about it. Is the new thing saying "If you don't like Ryback you're an hypocrite indie lover" or something? You could make a doll about Ryback haters called Mark(get it!?).

Pretty sure if Punk was the one who made the Owen Hart quote, people would be marking and saying how he was "paying his respects" to Owen. I assumed a Punk Paradox was overdue in this thread.
