- introduced as an unbeatable UFC fighter - gets important special referee role at Wrestlemania XIII - wins PPV debut against Vader - co-headlines 10 man tag team warfare PPV match at Canadian Stampede - gets a short PPV main event feud against Shawn & DX, loses only via DQ (interference) - long program against Rock & The Nation, barely misses winning the IC title at various points - wins King Of The Ring 1998 tournament, finally beating Rocky clean in the finals - gets another big feud with Undertaker, Kane, Rock & Mankind (everyone for himself storyline) - wins Intercontinental Title tournament on RAW after HHH's forfeit - becomes tag team champ with Big Bossman, while still being IC champ - gets an important role within the Corporation, trying to bring Stephanie back to Vince - most protected guy during the IC title feud/Ryan Shamrock feud with Goldust, Venis & Mr. Ass
rarely have I seen such a long steady super-protected megapush in this company

Well he was over. He had a great moveset. Heck, I still think this guy could have been a great champion if booked as the silent killer of some sort. Short reigns. He was a great character.

Shamrock was a good example of WWF giving a constant push to the right guy, at least.

They pushed a guy that was really over and could believably beat a good portion of the roster. The problem is....?

It was probably in his contract that he was handled like that.

I don't think it was a constant push at all. Infact, after winning King of the Ring he slowly sunk down to the lower midcard and never rose above it. He was the least successful KOTR winner after Billy Gunn.
The guy looked like he could straight up kill at least half the roster, so they couldn't exactly job him out all the time.

Then he just vanished and was never spoke of again. Wasn't he fresh off his feud with Steve Blackman when he vanished? I think he made one appearance on Raw and Smackdown after Summerslam. When was his last appearance?

He had a short feud with Jericho. Jericho just debuted. I think he left after that

When was his last appearance? After Summerslam he started a feud with Jericho that got a decent amount of TV time. They were supposed to face each other at the September Unforgiven PPV in one of the bigger matches on the card. Shamrock I believe got hurt though and wanted to leave and return to UFC, so they pulled him and replaced him with X-Pac. His last apperance was the Smackdown before the PPV where they wrote him off with a injury angle where he was beatdown by Jericho and Mr. Hughes.

Man I loved Ken Shamrock back then. Such a badass.

Even though I recall his Y2J feud afterwards (keep forgetting about the beatdown that he never returned from), something about his Summerslam match came across - even then - very much like a final appearance for him.

Still love watching Shamrock's stuff from late '97 and '98. I think with better booking he could've had a great WWF Title reign. The guy was terrible on the mic though.

He was terrible but he was sort of a Chris Benoit type champion. He didn't have to say a lot besides "Shawn Michaels, I am coming for you" or "I am going to snap your ankle" or something like that. The fans loved it. His scream on the steps was awesome. I always push him in TEW or WWE 13

With better timing, he could have been a decent world champion

I'm just a little surprised we never got Austin/Shamrock on a PPV. Would have been cool.

The WWE making him cut promos hurt his character. He did not need to.

With better timing, he could have been a decent world champion Pretty much. Had he been around during the brand split (say, in 2004 at age 40), he would have been a world champion.

You think he would have done well if, following the storyline "injury," he jumped to WCW?
