I expected to get burned alive for this thread. I'm real impressed with everyone's views on this. The Punk die hard's are only getting in maybe 5% of the replies. I thought it would have been more like 90%. This proves not everyone on the internet is a Punk mark, just means the Punk mark's are the loudest. I myself was a Punk fan until a little over a year ago. Sometime shortly after that terrible feud he had with HHH and Nash, I don't know. Something just happened, can't explain it but Punk has suffered for it. I mean he's on 1 of the greatest runs of all time but it just don't work for me. Thanks for chiming in on this Wrestlecrap everybody. Hmm, I wonder what happened... youtu.be/zBAX3q6o2Ew?t=27m52sTHE WHOLE THREAD COMES FULL CIRCLE!

People bemoaned RVD, Kane and Booker being "buried" because HHH won in dominant, soul-crushing fashion I believe at Unforgiven 2002 it took Triple H multiple sledge hammer shots and interference from Flair to retain the World Title. Kane I believe had the match won and was cheated out of it. Booker had the interference of all of Evolution and a Sledgehammer shot. A heel winning feuds is not burying them. Him having to cheat to beat those 3 men makes him look bad and make them look better. He's putting them over just in a different way. Putting over means raising someone's value to a higher level than they previously were. That did not happen in those feuds. If you think Booker, RVD & Kane all came out better off at that time for having lost those feuds that spectacularly, I don't know what to tell you.

LOL. I knew this would get a rise out of some people! God forbid some1 has a not so great opinion of CM Punk! Nothing negative was said about him, just a comparison. I didn't say he was HHH, he's a new breed of HHH. This is the skinny fat___ version of HHH. He doesn't squash anyone but he doesn't get any1 over either. Name 1 guy Punk has elevated. The last guy that was elevated in a CM Punk feud was CM Punk when he fought Jeff Hardy. It's kind of funny that a druggie (definition of druggie: person who CM Punk hates, frowns upon, laughs at behind back) was the one who really got Punk rolling. Maybe in a few months when the Punk diehards are watching RAW and Punk's dropping 1 of them "pipebombs" they'll think to themselves, u know what, I coulda sworn he said this same thing last week and the week before, etc. On a side note, I love wrestlecrap.com. Best .com in the world! After this crybaby reply I'm surprised anyone took TC seriously. Look at him name drop wrestlecrap, like it's some huge taboo or something.

It is a less a taboo more than an inaccurate statement.

Punk is the WWE Champion. He should be the focal point of the show. His promos are entertaining, so I'm fine with a 20 min promo. He got Ryback over. Before Punk, Ryback was a jobber crusher without a purpose. Ryback hasn't been buried. The point of this storyline is to shift his focus from Punk to the Shield. I bet he finally pins Punk in the EC. Back to Punk: He's a heel. Heels winning through nefarious deeds is the backbone of wrestling. People pay to see the heel finally get his comeuppance, which will happen at the Rumble.

He is. A less interesting one though (to me anyways). When Triple H was the top heel...I wanted to see him get his. With C.M. Punk...I just don't care and either FF the DVR or change the channel when he's on.
He doesn't really even have a character. He just goes around saying how much better he is than everyone...the same damn thing every other heel in WWE basically says. HHH was a manipulative, evil and no good for anything who did horrible things and didn't care. Like when he and Austin just about murdered Lita by pummeling her with a steel chair on Raw.
All C.M. Punk does is spew incredibly lame insults at the crowd or call wrestlers by their real names and talk about how "fake" it is. Which I find kinda funny because of his "I'm the best in the world" gimmick. Basically he's saying he's the best in the world at a fake sport.
Anyways...Punk is a less interesting version of early 2000's Triple H at the end of the day (again...to me anyways).

Boy, Helmsley did a great job of putting those guys over "in a different way" - that way being putting them over as chumps who aren't on his level and aren't worthy of being world champions. He's not all bad though, there have been a few people along the way that he didn't mind putting over: his friend Shawn Michaels, his friend Kevin Nash, his friend Batista...wait, am I detecting a theme here?

He put them over the HHH way. Also don't forget how he put over the broomstick.

There are HHH comparisons to be made with CM Punk. I think a lot of it has to do with Triple H being involved more with creative these days. And Triple H believes this how you make a true heel champion and we haven't had long title reigns in a while. Etc. Etc.

One thing people tend forget whenever they pull out the old Helmsley Berriez List is that Scott Steiner was garbage at the time and in no position to be given the ball and RVD was a risk (as he proved when he got caught riding dirty about a month into being WWE and ECW champion). The only ones that can honestly be considered "burried" are Jericho and Booker. Also, you forgot him putting over Goldberg, Benoit, and Shelton Benjamin (even if Benjamin never went on to be World Champion himself, which is far more on Creative's shoulders than Game's). But, since we're on the subject, who has Punk made look better? Of the only four people he's had prolonged feuds with that come to mind, one's gone from being a world championship contender to being the "goatfaced" half of a comedy tag team, one ended up looking like a choke artist and/or a complete idiot, and two were well established years ago and had nothing serious to gain or lose. Well, I can't say nobody has benefited from being involved with Punk. AJ seems to have done well for herself.

I think the CM Punk faithful is just blinded by the fact that he was their favorite independent wrestler and he's dominating the WWE. Punk could bury everyone on the roster and hold the title for 10 years and they would never complain. What they refuse to see is the second coming of HHH happening right before their very eyes every week on RAW. You get a break on Smackdown because Punk, like HHH, doesn't work Tuesdays. This is a new WWE, 15 years from now everyone on the roster is gonna be your favorite independent wrestler from yesteryear. HHH, unlike Vince, obviously pays attention to the indy scene because these guys are getting signed. Homegrown roided robots are probably a thing of the past. CM Punk, unlike HHH has opened the door for the independent guys but if HHH is gonna book them like this, why should we care.

Punk's reign would probably bother me more if there were people that I thought should be getting world title runs over him at the moment.
I've seen enough Cena and Orton as champ for a lifetime so I'm fine with no more of that.
Ryback beating Punk would be neat but after winning the belt I think it'd get boring really quick.
So there just isn't much going on there at the moment. I don't really care who has the actual belt, just don't want to see more feuds that drag ass. WWE has a habit of their main event title feuds being the most boring part of the program. Rock/Punk seems good so far fortunately. Wouldn't even care if Rock takes the belt from Punk at the rumble, I just really don't want to see Rock/Cena part 2.
Good thing for Punk he's not still wearing those shorts. Those would be serious jobbing shorts in the WWE.

Some people have never seen a single one of Punk's indy matches, or any indy matches for that matter, and still enjoy his WWE work. Also, the big hoss bodybuilder types are never going away.
