To me is the booking of individual members. Each of the guys seems to be portrayed as a separate upper midcarder/main-eventer, capable of holding his own against the best WWE has to offer. Thusly, when they do their Nexus pack-of-wolves attack thing, and faces rush down to make the save, they are more able to keep momentum because any one of them can, at least briefly, go toe to toe with a top face.
Nexus was more presented as a group of psychotic and vicious lowercard guys; with the possible exception of Barrett, the Nexus as individual pieces were FAR weaker than the whole.
The math I think roughs out to 1 out of 8 of the Nexus = 1/16th of the Nexus' total power...whereas...
1 out of 3 of the Shield is equivalent to having 1/3 the power of the shield.
The massacre of all the main event faces on Monday night sealed this for me, and I hope it continues this way through mania.

If any one of the three was in any sort of confrontation with any top face alone, they'd be destroyed. So no.
Nor is that a problem. In fact I think Cole even mentioned (or one of them did, on commentary) regarding them taking out all the faces "They're so good at maintaining the 3 on 1 odds!".
They're good at working as a team to take individuals out quickly. In kayfabe if the 3 faces had all hit the ring at once, what would have happened? Obvious answer.

Bootytime, I'm not sure that's true. We saw them hold their own against Ryback several times at TLC.

Nexus was beating regular WWE guys, including uppercarders, in singles and tag matches during the storyline. Heath Slater was actually more credible as a solo competitor as a member of Nexus than he is now.

I think the big thing The Nexus had that The Shield doesn't yet are colorful, distinct identities. They've tried real hard to make The Shield members blend into each other.

It adds to there mystery. where we new a lot about The Nexus from NXT season 1 we don't know much about the shield yet.

THE BIGGER PITCHA! Well, it at least sounded like it had a point for the longest. Shield are just hired guns.

The Nexus was awesome for only their debut.
The Shield has sustained awesomeness since their debut.

plus there are only 3 of them as opposed to 7. the fact that they have only wrestled one match, which they won is another way they're protected from the inevitable jobbing-out that midcarders often go through. they do need to start giving the 3 of them a chance to develop some individual identity though, random run-ins and beat-downs will get old sooner rather than later.

Nexus had a better theme and sold some t-shirts with less talented performers.

The Nexus formed after the rookies were put through a ton of bullshit on NXT that they felt wasn't fair to them

Bootytime, I'm not sure that's true. We saw them hold their own against Ryback several times at TLC. I disagree, individual members were able to stave him off long enough for the rest of the team to get their numbers advantage back but we didn't see any one member really dominate for too long. I think that's why WWE's playing the Shield really smart right now, together they're real dangerous but if you single out Seth Rollins and put him against Randy Orton, for better or worse WWE is gonna have a tough time making Seth Rollins look good and not having him get some copout victory like that night they tried making Nexus look dominant by having them win in the luckiest bulls*** ever. It's awesome to me how much they've gotten out of the Shield with them only having one match.

I like that the Shield have a really distinctive look of their own. Nexus was a bunch of dorks in their underwear.
