Posters certainly are a lot cheaper than TV or radio advertising. I haven't really looked into newspaper advertising but I'm guessing it's probably gotten pretty cheap. The only problem with hanging posters is that more and more cities are limiting the areas that people are allowed to post public notices. Everyone always talks about the old "flyer on a telephone pole" but you can't even do that in most cities now or the police will take them down and sometimes even call the venue and order them to stop (even though it's rarely their fault the venue usually gets the blame funnily enough).

That's true, but hanging them in the windows of local businesses works (all it takes is a cooperative owner to allow it).

I have noticed in my area the indies that hang flyers up around town will draw between 150 and 200 people. The ones that don't draw 80 if they are lucky.

I just discovered this series of videos shot in the car by a wrestler called Chase Matthews from Coldwater, MI. They were obviously shot in the car on the way to or from shows, and since most of the interviewees are guys I'm familiar with it was really interesting for me to learn more about them. These guys being wrestlers, there are some pretty funny stories in some of them as well.
This one was among those I found most entertaining to watch. In this case the interview subject is Roderick Street, who I believe I have mentioned in this thread a few times already. One of the highlights is the story of one of the most painful-sounding injuries I've ever heard of, be it in a wrestling ring or anywhere else. I won't spoil it completely, but it involves taking viagra before a match after mistaking them for aspirin, and then getting hit with an errant gut buster which missed the gut but connected somewhere else.

The name sounds familiar, but I might be thinking of a wrestling from northern Michigan called Sebastian Rose. I've never asked anybody or anything, but I've always assumed the name Sebastian Rose is a fusion of Sebastian Bach and Axl Rose. I think I like the name Christian Rose better. Definitely strikes me as a heel name, though I can't really say why.
That reminds me, one of the promotions up north, PPW has a TV show on the CW now. I'm not sure what the range of different CW branches is but I would guess most of northern Michigan would probably get it. In Mid-Michigan the CW shows AWWL Big Time Wrestling, but I heard it's gotten bumped for other programming the last couple of weeks. They never seem to have enough content, there's always boring stuff that seems like it's there to fill time. The last time I saw it they would show still photos of the flyer for their show that was coming up at the time for like ten minutes in between the matches, many of which were clipped even though there weren't a lot of them and they weren't super long or anything. I haven't seen the PPW show yet.

I just used the "like" function for the first time on this board. You don't know the monster you've created.

That's cool. Is it just me or does it seem like a lot of indies lately have been bringing in Matt Hardy to put over whatever local guy they're trying to build? It's like his niche right now. I wonder how much he charges for those bookings.

We are not allowed to talk about it but even with everything they definitely drew over even so theres still something there... with that said Matt loved Christian's dark promos and responded himself

Anyone else here going to Absolute Intense Wrestling's Absolution 8 on Sunday? I'm in Cleveland this month, and the chance to see Derrick Bateman was too good to resist! Be nice to meet some other FAN members there.

ACH is the most fun wrestler I've seen in ages. Soft spot for Marion Fontaine and Louis Lyndon.
AAW puts on such a great show. The owner seems to really appreciate the audience.

The show last night was phenomenal. It really says something that the crowd didn't die out when they announced Sami couldn't make it after the second match and they were giving refunds. The only other thing I can say is: SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANE! I marked so god damned hard when he beat Elgin. The guy sitting next to me and the girl I was with gave us both a horse-collar group hug. In conclusion, Shug f***ing rules.

The Rockapalooza music festival in Jackson, MI last weekend had pro wrestling. In this video from Michigan Mainstream the portion of the video with pro wrestling coverage starts at about 6:03.

Had to leave before the main events due to awkward bus times, and so didn't see Bateman, but what I saw of the show was brilliant. Few really fun matches, particular Ethan Page VS Johnny Gargano and Louis Lyndon VS Flip Kendrick. Michael Elgin VS Josh Alexander was also good, albeit very no-selly. The Batiri VS Hope and Change was also very fun, but I felt like we needed a bit more of the backstory, what with an odd spot after the match where Veda Scott was stomped into a kiddy pool full of burgers. Overall, though, great show, and can't wait to get the iPPV to see the matches we missed.
