Question for indie wrestling fans in the general Great Lakes region of the United States. I'm thinking of states like Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin, Illinois, Pennsylvania, etc.
Who are some of the wrestlers you see as being among the best or most memorable talent? Who's a good wrestler, who does good promos, who draws, who gets heat, etc. Anybody who's notable for any reason is probably worth mentioning.

I'm a big fan of Tommy Treznik.
Also, Mena Libra, who did a few shows from SHIMMER as well.

I've considered going, as I live right in the area, but I always forget about it and it only ever crosses my mind on like Tuesdays or weekends I might go to the Flea Market but it's not a show day.

I like CLASH when I do remember to go.
Also...I just realized I was telling people about Tadarius Thomas a few years ago when he was still going by just TD.
Stop changing your names, indy wrestlers!

I really need to get into the indy scene around here. On the surface it feels kinda sparse but I keep hearing about decent shows popping up here and there.

The problem I think is getting the word out about the shows outside of the workers and the hardcore fans who go to every show. That's the thing that sucks about social networking becoming society's main promotional tool, it's all peer to peer so nobody can get heat unless they're already famous because why would somebody add you if you're not nice and you're not famous?
Whoa, I went off on a little tangent there. Maybe the last part should have gone in the "are heels afraid to get heat" thread.

It's really hard to get people to see me do stand-up because the only people that know about it are friends (who have likely already seen it at least once), family (who I'd prefer didn't see it) and other comics. Even though this region has some super talented people, it's like the only people that truly appreciate it are people also going after the same goals you are. So...uh, wrestling. Am I right?

That's exactly right. It's a problem. I don't really know what companies could do except maybe save their money and run commercials during Smackdown or something. Except Smackdown's not on the local station anymore so I guess maybe ROH? It's tricky to rock a rhyme. And promoting's not that easy either. Maybe it's time for promoting to get less innovative and more traditional. And if TV or radio is too expensive then maybe newspaper. That's about the best I can come up with.

I haven't been able to make it to a CLASH show (pesky lake in the way) but I follow it as best I can. Big fan of that group over there. Tommy Treznik, Mena (who may or may not be retired), J. Miller, and Cameron Skyy are some personal favorites. Miller is getting a slowly painful push in AAW. Ended up in the semi finals for the AAW Heritage Title. Shane Hollister works the Midwest/Great Lakes and CZW now. He's such a douche, but he's amazing at it. Love him. Prince Mustafa Ali is another guy I'm really high on. He's a local Illinois guy and he's got the whole package. Great in the ring, natural heel, can talk, and gets a ton of heat without really doing much because of his ethnicity. If things keep going the way they are, he's going to breakout big in 2013. And, least we not forget Moondog Bernard:

Was that picture of Moondog Bernard taken in Jackson, MI by any chance? Kinda looks like a venue there called Avenue Billiards where some locals like IROG, HCW (defunct), and AWWL have all run shows, possibly among others.

He has been all over Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana at the very least that's true. Necro Butcher is another guy who's known more nationally that works in the region on a somewhat frequent basis.

Just wanted to mention that on March 26th there's a show in Ft. Wayne, Indiana that has a bunch of legends like Bret Hart, Hacksaw Duggan, Ted DiBiase, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, and Demolition, as well as regional talents like Roderick Street and the IROG Champion Jun Hado. I'm trying to organize a carpool from the Mid-Michigan/Greater Lansing area.

Sorry to keep bumping this, but I was thinking that since there are only so many of us posting on the forum here who live in the Great Lakes region and have an interest in the indie wrestling that maybe we could keep this going as like an all-purpose thread for it.
What I have in mind is like, if there's a show coming up that you're going to and you wanna organize a carpool, you're trying to help get the word out, or you're just plain excited for the show then make a post here. We could also post pictures, share stories, etc. Since wrestling is a relatively small circle we probably all know some of the same people whether or not we realize it.

I live in Detroit and have nothing to do this weekend. Is there any more info on the show in Mexicantown?
