I think some of this might be due to the fact that some films were just made for actually going to the movies and watching on the big screen. Take the movie Air Force One for example. That was a pretty exciting movie when I saw it in the theater, but I tried to watch it when it came on TV the other day and it just wasn't very good.

I've noticed abit more negativity toward The Lord of the Rings lately. Though for me personally I was never a fan to begin with I think a lot of that is The Hobbit and the whole 2 hours of content over 9 hours of screentime thing they're trying to get away with.

For some reason, maybe in light of Twilight, people are starting to talk crap about the Harry Potter movies. I have noticed people either talking crap about the early 4 or the late 4 when Potter gets older I think a lot of the issue comes from more people reading the books where now things that weren't really overly important in earlier books play a huge part in later books and due to that some movies are hurt due to certain things missing. The Half Blood Prince movie ended up being a huge disappointment to me atleast because it was missing huge things from the book. And while I enjoy both Deathly Hollow movies for what they are, they are missing some huge things as well from the book that would make the movies make more sense for those that haven't read the books.

Wait, people are hating on the first Spider-Man? That seems odd

Wait, people are hating on the first Spider-Man? That seems odd I think its combination of various other superhero films out there causing people to rexamine it and fans of the reboot (myself included) explaining the problems they had with the trilogy as a whole and why they prefer certain things from the new film.

I think there are quite a few people (me included) that are seeing Temple of Doom as a mediocre movie more and more. Even more so than Crystal Skull (again, me included). Willie and Short Round were just annoying as hell, especially Willie, a walking stereotype who is a far, far cry from Marion in Raiders. People like to toss ammo at Crystal Skull for the fridge nuke scene, but have they seen the raft scene in Temple when they jumped out of the plane? I find that to be more ridiculous than what they have to say about the nuke. Oh, and this little gem.

Jurassic Park. People don't realize how big a deal it was when it came out, and now it's just an also ran in the mentions of not good big budget flicks

Few people seemed to have a problem with Saw until the sequels and various knock-offs came out. I'm also seeing more and more criticism of Return of the Jedi, mostly because of the Ewoks, because apparently they're more out of place than the Sarlaac (sp?), those ass-headed musicians from the first film, Jabba, the Sand People and all the weird-ass creatures from the Star Wars universe. I've only seen the first Saw, but I thought it was okay up until the point that Jigsaw stood up. Anyway, for some of the other movies mentioned here... I always thought the Lord of the Rings movies were boring as all hell, I do like the Spider-Man ones (though Amazing Spider-Man easily trumps them) and Batman Forever, and Avatar makes Lord of the Rings look like things actually happen in those movies. If nothing else, at least in Lord of the Rings I didn't find myself wishing for the mass destruction of the hobbits for most of the screentime. Then there's Dark Knight - very good movie, but I think it's the worst of the trilogy and I think Ledger's Joker is vastly overrated. One kinda-sorta one I've noticed is Superman Returns. Back when it came out, most people seemed to think it was okay, just a rehash of the first one besides some assorted Luthor memes coming out of it, but it tends to be looked back at as pretty much being a disaster. I'm not sure where I'd fall on that - I've not seen it since it was in theaters, but I remember thinking outside of the stupid son and Cyclops stuff it was decent.

Yeah, people like Jurassic Park, but they mock the hell out of Lost World.

The Godfather Part III got decent to great reviews and 10 Oscar nominations (including Best Picture) when it came out.
Now people talk like it's the worst movie of all time. Isn't revisionist history fun?

I have literally never heard anyone say anything bad about Jurassic Park. Except maybe mocking the OS the girl hacks as a classic example of Hollywood having no idea how computers work (despite the OS shown being a real thing). Yeah, people like Jurassic Park, but they mock the hell out of Lost World. And they wisely ignore Jurassic Park III.

Isn't revisionist history fun? A lot of people love to blame Sofia Coppola for "The Godfather Part III" sucking, but keep in mind that she was cast at the last minute after going through several actresses (Madonna among them).

Inception is another film that people raved about when it came out, but it doesn't seem to have the cultural staying power that the hype suggested it did.

I don't think I've heard a peep about it since it was in theaters, other than to refer things being tucked into other things as *INSERT NOUN*-ception

Isn't revisionist history fun? That's interesting, I didn't know it was that successful when it came out. Probably because people talk about it like it wasn't.

Godfather III only really comes up because people felt like they either had to buy it or pay as much/more to avoid buying it when The Godfather came on DVD and then on Blu-Ray. It might be the same thing if they bundled The Two Jakes with Chinatown except probably on a smaller scale.

I was mistaken. The Godfather Part III was nominated for 7 Oscars, not 10.

Blimey, Con Air is pretty much still my favorite film. Avatar was boring - mainly because it hammered it's 'HUMANS ARE BAD' message over and over again. All humans are bad? Whatever message you think was hammered over and over again, you got it wrong. It's like you watched Transformers and concluded that all robots are evil.
