You should not lose any PMs during the switch. Basically you will convert your account to a global Proboards account, you should retain all private messages, bookmarks, etc. You *might* lose your avatar, but that's an isolated case and you can just put it back afterwards. What about post counts and viewings of old classic threads? Post counts should move over too. I don't know what you mean exactly about the viewings of old classic threads - all posts and such should move over. It's good to hear about the PMs. I actually message myself important information because it's a good way to keep track of it in ways that's available to me if I switch computers or anything like that, I trust it more than email as well. If you're worried about it I'd make a backup of the stuff that I definitely can not lose. In your inbox there should be a button called "Backup Messages" in between the Outbox & Preferences buttons. I say "button", it's really a picture-link thing. It will make a backup file for you to download. Do this soon if you want to have it done as the request gets put into a queue and maybe not be instantaneous. But just to reiterate, you should not lose your PMs due to the switch over. ...global account? I don't like the idea of this at all. I mean, I get why it exists, but this seems like it'd be all too easy for someone to dig into information across boards. The global account thing is basically a Master Account from which your different profiles can be accessed. When I made a test board so that I could familiarize myself with the moderating tools in V5 I linked several of my profiles together on one master account, but on each profile I had separate information like PMs, signatures, all that stuff. It's basically letting you centralize your access to all Proboards boards you go to - it will not affect you a great deal if you don't link your global to other profiles/accounts you may have elsewhere. Also, we're doing this now as a means to hopefully get this out of the way and squash the growing pains before Wrestlemania. v4 is getting so that it just isn't working so well anymore (you might have noticed that some threads can not be moved, there are buttloads of errors some days, and there are more problems behind the scenes as well) and with Wrestlemania coming the board is going to be bombarded by activity. We want to have things stable and in place by then. The switch to V5 is mandatory and not something we could put off forever, so we tried to get it done on our schedule rather than random or on an ultimatum.

All threads should be moved over. The Archives are just forums that are 'locked' to new posts, so they should be moved over as well. If not I know that I for one will be quite angry.

Thanks again for all your hard work, mods. I would be seriously depressed if this place disappeared.

Mods aren't paid?
Why am I sending Not Zombie Mod a hundred bucks a month?

I'm no stranger to harassment from banned members on some boards I admin/mod, but I had no idea that you guys got it that bad from some people. That thing with the t-shirt is seriously scummy.
Thanks for all the hard work guys.

Aside from that, locking it because people don't like it is not a good move. Opens up the idea that if someone does not like a thread, then that would be enough reason to lock it or ban it entirely. This. So much THIS. Seriously, you can like or hate the damn Rebecca Black song, but do you really want to find out what happens when threads get deleted just because someone doesn't like the content of the thread, despite no rules being broken? Because, eventually it's going to happen to something you want to discuss, and then FAN gets a lot less fun. If anything, the whole Friday drama has me respecting the mods/admins here more because they could have taken the easy way out and bent to popular opinion, but instead they actually came to a sensible ruling here that doesn't open Pandora's box when it comes to deleting things due to personal or popular opinion.

You must not read Off Topic enough... there are too many non-butt threads clogging things up So you're saying that Off Topic needs an enema?

Damn, never realise quite how deep the mod hole goes. I know it doesn't mean much, but I appreciate the work you do. This is pretty much the only forum I visit, as people don't devolve into arguments at the slightest provocation and the mods are always on top of things.

I had no idea the forums were in danger of being closed multiple times, especially considering it's far more tame, well-spirited and even respectful of the Proboards TOS than most other forums.
And while I suspected there must be some abuse (can't get any kind of authority without someone getting mad at you), I honestly didn't think there were people pathetic enough to make it a real-life issue and start threatening the families of people they don't like online.
I'm kind of curious as to what happened in both of those cases but I presume it wuld be for the best not to give too many details.

I want a realistic, down to earth forum, that's completely off the wall and swarming with magic robots. And we should win things by posting!

You all know what I want, but since it will never happen, I'll just say thanks for keeping the place decent, and V5 should be interesting

I just want posting Rebecca Black's 'Friday' to be banable. Is that so much to ask?!? Believe me. It's been asked way too many times. In all honestly, there's nothing really wrong with it. Rules-wise, there's nothing that really breaks a rule on it. We have even made it clear that only one thread could be made in Friday, and I'm happy to say that it's been followed. Aside from that, locking it because people don't like it is not a good move. Opens up the idea that if someone does not like a thread, then that would be enough reason to lock it or ban it entirely. It's valid viewpoint that it can be repetitive, but at the same time a number of people has their use for it. They can have fun with it. Complaints are unavoidable, but it's impossible to please everyone. I can't believe you guys get a lot of complaints on that. As a poster, if a topic doesn't interest you, avoid the topic. I think sometimes people fall in love with complaining.

Will the board look different? We've had this color scheme for years now.

Will the board look different? We've had this color scheme for years now. I'd imagine some aesthetics will be different, but the board colours will probably remain the same.

Will the board look different? We've had this color scheme for years now. To what I've seen of V5, there are some design changes, but nothing major.

I think sometimes people fall in love with complaining. Honestly, people and society in general need to stop believing that the entire World is going to bend to their petty selfish needs, that people with different tastes only have them to annoy them and that they disliking something justifies asking for their cessation. People live their lives and do their things for themselves so unless it's somehow actively hurting you, deal with it and stop whining about how teenage poetry is ruining your life. Same thing in the forums. See a thread type you don't like? Well unless similar ones are taking up all the space, ignore it. And if the idea of someone having the audacity of enjoying something you don't is really that big of a deal to you, leave.

FAN moderators love poopy.
Seriously though, a big thank you for running this great board! I used to run a forum a few years ago, so I know all about the abuse and the headache inducing decisions you sometimes have to make.
Thanks again. I would buy you all a beer, but I'm a cheap bastard. Are we allowed to call ourselves bastards?

Ah, well, the complaints are relatively understandable. A good amount of mod work here relies on posters reporting to the mods on certain things. Sometimes, those reports are just minor stuff, sometimes there's no need to mod it and stuff. Of course, for rule-breaking stuff, it helps the mods be more quick about cleaning things up, as sometimes we won't be able to cover all the threads with so much activity going on.
It'd be a bit suspicious if no one made some noise, one way or another. I find that at the very least, answering to complaints can help broaden one's horizon. One can keep complaining, but they could also discuss things with one another. Sometimes it gets heated, but hopefully at the very least they could at least provide a chance to exchange opinions and whatnot.
Of course, sometimes people do get a bit overboard with the complaining. It can be tedious, especially when one wants to just have some fun, but in the end it's nothing to get too worked up on.
