So... who do we make the #1 contender? You know who sounds promising? Matt Morgan. I mean, he's really come into his own with this company, been around for a while and impressed everyone with his development... plus he's done commercials for us, he's shown he can half-way decently cut a promo, he's got some buzz... and he's never been the champ before. Morgan vs. Bully would at least...
What's that, Hogan?
No. We've done that to death.
He's not the wrestler he was back in the nWo, Hogan. We need to start getting more new talent over if we want...
Don't take your shirt off, Hogan.
No, don't start tearing your...
Crap.

Is anyone really that upset about stuff like this, anymore?
We know what TNA is by now.

Morgan vs Bully is pretty much a no win situation too. Morgan has 10 second promos every week for a few months, shows up and wins contendership, then loses to Bully at the PPV. That does absolutely nothing for him, and the match would be just as meh as Sting/Bully will be. Plus, they clearly want to keep him as a heel since they have no real upper card heel presence outside of Aces & 8s. At least with how they did it last night, they aren't throwing Morgan's first title shot in this new push away in a match with a 100% obvious outcome. Im not at all excited to see Sting/Bully, but at least it makes storyline sense and doesn't cast aside what they're doing with Morgan. Larry Csonka over at 411Mania had a great idea though, one that follows your general premise, putting a fresh talent in there with Bully, keeping Morgan heel, and not putting Sting in the title match: www.411mania.com/wrestling/columns/281999There are problems with it, but id take it over Sting at this point.

We have Morgan screw Sting at Slammiversary, then we can feud Sting/Morgan through Bound For Glory, put Morgan over Sting at Bound For Glory and AJ over Bully if that was the plan and then lead to Face AJ vs. Heel Morgan. It's not hard to understand that they want Morgan in the uppercard as a heel and are trying to protect him until the time is right, Sting doesn't need protected so is able to job to Ray at the PPV.

Sting/Bully is your money match right now. I expect Bully to go over and give him a big push towards BFG where I suppose AJ will beat him clean for the belt thus being TNA's savior.
I think it'll be a good match though. I'd like them to put a hardcore element on it or something but even a straight singles would be good.

So like, why couldn't they put like, Magnus in there. I know they said they took out all the babyfaces and I guess only Hogan and Sting are good enough to save the day, but wouldn't it make more sense to put a guy like Magnus in there instead? Or Eric Young, what a great story that would be? Or James Storm, or like, anybody. In regards to buys, TNA should be worried about 5 years down the road as their buyrates are shit no matter what. I could see Sting in a 6 man tag against Aces and 8s members at Slammiversary, but this whole stuff with Sting and Hogan is a major turn off for me on the product.

If Bully is the top heel right now why undermine him by building another top heel.
TNA needs to work on their faces

Because just maybe the story is Bubba and the Aces taking out all the top faces including the ones like Sting and Hogan, making them look unstoppable until a reluctant hero emerges from the shadows and takes him down? Taking out a guy like EY, Magnus or any of the ones they've done already adds nothing to that. The story is building to one of two guys being the hero of TNA, Morgan or AJ and all signs are it being AJ.

Because he's been the hero of TNA for nearly 6 years. In TNA he is the guy that has always saved them, Planet Jarrett, Angle Alliance, MEM, Immortal and countless others were always done in by Sting so why shouldn't TNA (and the fans) expect him to do the same to the Aces and 8s? Then when they kill the savior, you have the hopelessness and desperation that makes AJ's rise mean that much more. Same with Hogan, should his ego allow it, Bully and Co. beating him down and putting down Hulkamania, forcing him to turn to someone else to get the job done is a huge thing.

The guy suggesting Magnus and Eric Young, those guys are Midcarders at best who's buying a PPV to watch those guys? I'm surprised Eric Young even still has a job with TNA
Ric gets the angle and how it should (And hopefully WILL) play out. Bully will beat Sting they'll go with "Who can save us now" which will lead to Hogan putting over AJ as the guy to do it. AJ agrees making him look like a hero and topples the evil Bully Ray at BFG.
From there AJ can turn heel again on the people or you have a new baby face to play with.

The guy suggesting Magnus and Eric Young, those guys are Midcarders at best who's buying a PPV to watch those guys? If people aren't buying TNA ppvs with guys like Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle, Sting, and Hulk Hogan on top, does it really make a difference if a midcarder get the main slot? The day is going to come when those same midcarders are going to be called on to lead the company. What's the harm in building them up now? I get the story of AJ being the one to liberate TNA from Bully's reign. I even understand having Sting and Hogan taking a stand against Aces and Eight. The problem is that the road to the eventual payoff is not exciting. I could miss a month of Impact and still not fall behind.

Within the storyline, AJ can't get a title shot until Bound for Glory, so they pretty much have to stretch it out until then. That is going to lead to a lot of filler in between before it gets to the payoff, which is where we are now. The show does feel stagnate right now. TNA did not hit their stride last year until the BFG Series (IMO), so hopefully the shows will start to get better after Slammiversary. If you figure the 12 guys in the bracket this year will include Styles, Aries, Roode, Angle, Joe, Storm, Magnus, Hardy, Daniels, etc, I can't see how it doesn't freshen the show up a bit, even with Aces and Eights involved.

I agree. Or if they want to cut A&8s short if it gets too stale by having Morgan brutally murder Bully and take the title right before BFG series so Bully has to compete in the series to get his rematch but only to loose to AJ in the finals. The end of A&8s and beginning of Morgan vs AJ Styles feud.

They still have a PPV to sell, Tickets to sell, DVD's to sell after the show. Even less people would buy a PPV to see Eric Young/Bully Ray because you know Bully is going to wreck him in about 5 minutes. At least with Sting/Bully you know you're going to get a 15-20 minute match featuring a legend of the sport taking on TNA's top guy.

At this point in his career, putting Sting in a long match is asking for trouble. Again, TNA needs to start thinking about the day when there's no Sting, Hardy, Hogan, and Angle to fall back on and form a contingency plan. Bully Ray was a midcarder in TNA before they got behind him. Taking them the time to build up Magnus will help them in the long run. TNA needs new blood in the main event. They shouldn't have to wait for WWE to toss them some scraps. They need to show they can create stars who are under 30. The originals they love to tout are in their mid to late 30's. By TNA logic, they got another 5 years before they can run with the ball once more.
