Still very close and the rankings can change in a heartbeat. Just waiting for a couple of more songs from one contestant and then Round 31's picks will be sent to the judges.

There was a repeat artist for Round 31's songs. I missed one, so it's on me. The contestant has been pm'd about it and I hope to have the replacement soon.

"We Might Fall" is the best song I've ever ranked last in a set of rankings. That's just an injustice to such an amazing song. Best round was that Bells and Whistles category.
Stinger4Christ did not get ANY help from me. And I apologize. That's one whale of an amazing list of four songs to have finished 4th that round. The four of you are just too good.

You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet- Bachman Turner Overdrive
Epic and classic guitar slam via one of rock’s most memorable choruses. Such a unique lyric that gives the song its strong identity. For some, I understand how this might’ve worn thin over the years. But for this judge, the combo of that lyrical delivery with supporting guitar is a stamp that just doesn’t get old.
------------------------------------------
Old Money- Hungry Kids of Hungary
Hate the band name. Cool vocal though. (Also, sidenote: I thought this band was from Australia or New Zealand.) The stylings are what make this song what it is. It’s carried by its swag. As it goes along, the impacts really pick up and deliver in a way that’s needed. I’m glad the piece doesn’t level off and follow suit with the intro. It grows on you as it goes, and I commend the song-chooser on opening up a not-so-obvious new artist for the game here in the late rounds.
---------------------------------------------- The Gardener- The Tallest Man on Earth
I really like the vocal here. It’s like a Bob Dylan/Eddie Vedder offspring. Again, we have a unique artist and piece introduced the competition and I’m digging the originality here. Going to be a round too close to call. Fun track that doesn’t stray too far from the hook that is solid enough to keep it going throughout.
-----------------------------------------------
Jailbreak- Thin Lizzy
Opening chord … YES! Scratchy rhythms that just suck me in. The best Thin Lizzy vocal that I’m aware of. The timing in the vocals are what make it for me. That steady scratch on the guitar is the perfect backdrop, and Phil Lynott puppeteers the words of the song like a master. It doesn’t feel rushed or overdone. It’s perfectly balanced in all forms of its delivery. What a fun little track that hasn’t gotten old!
----------------------------------------
Great round, folks! You made it tough!
1. Jailbreak- Thin Lizzy 2. You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet- Bachman Turner Overdrive 3. Old Money- Hungry Kids of Hungary 4. The Gardener- The Tallest Man on Earth

Rebellion (Lies)- Arcade Fire
Ummm … Yes please! Yes! I have no idea what this band is doing to me half the time, but I want them to keep doing it. Such unusual “bells and whistles” peeking from around the corner in their songs. This is obviously no exception … just listen for them all. It’s maniacal at times (like many of this band’s tracks) but it is thus in a subdued sense. It’s that kind of combo that just grasps me and doesn’t let go. There is something behind the “gritted teeth” vocals in parts of this song and it leaves me questioning whether or not I want to know what the lead singer is holding back. Well played!
-----------------------------------------------------------
Sweet Talkin' Woman- ELO
No idea how this band can be so addictive. It could be the use of bells and whistles. Unusual combos of sounds for rock/pop music. The vocal layering is spot on perfect for this song. The timing of the lines layered over top of each other works wonders. It’s a special talent to be able to piece things like this together, and I’m in awe. And those harmonies? Ummm hmmm.
----------------------------------------------------------
Gentle on My Mind- John Hartford
Yes! Love how each line of the verses are weighted down with as many ranting words as possible. It really really works. Amazing hook for a song that’s supported wonderfully by the instrumentation. Love me some amplified plywood – haha! The talent on this track cannot be praised enough. Three songs in and I have an impossible task. All deserving of number one for the round! This really is a gem of a song. I love this pick!
-------------------------------------------------------------
We Might Fall- Ryan Star
Another fantastic song. The heavyweights are here, there is no doubt about it. This lulls me into a despair and emotional response that I cannot explain. I was in such a different mood after the first three songs of the round, and then this one grabs tightly and really gets a reaction out of me I was not expecting. These will have to be revisited. Impossible round to rank. Absolutely impossible set of four songs here. This song is emotional overdrive and I love it! Unreal the way it pulls me in emotionally!
Impossibly good songs, every single one. 1. Rebellion (Lies)- Arcade Fire 2. Sweet Talkin' Woman- ELO 3. Gentle on My Mind- John Hartford 4. We Might Fall- Ryan Star

Runaway Baby - Bruno Mars
We already had Bruno Mars commentary earlier in the game. Just go back and review what I had to say there. A lot of songs here, and the explanation for the ranking can easily be found there. (Eh, may be lazy, but I don’t want to overharp on the Bruno Mars stuff. His best track here though, in my estimation, and because it doesn’t fully go the way I commented about in the previous Bruno Mars homage.
-------------------------------------------------------------------- Miss Misery - Elliot Smith
I absolutely love how you dug into the well for this one. This is obviously a piece you’re familiar with and ready to uncork at any given moment. I’m impressed with how you dug up this track for the round, and the delicacy really works on me. Great lyrics.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Let My Love Open The Door - Pete Townshend Yes! Yes! Get after that acoustic! Unbelievable markout for this song. I’ve not heard this version, and I’m loving it! That acoustic just absolutely MAKES this song. I don’t know if I’m capable of disliking Pete Townshend’s work. He cradles that lyric so well too. No way anyone could remake this song with any effectiveness after hearing this.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Sacrilege – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
One of my current favorites! Good grief, I have no idea how she creates those shrieks with the same voice that produces those deep lulls. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs do things no other band does. Joy Formidable in the previous round exhibits many of those same identifiable eccentricities that work so well on me. Aside from that, I can think of no band to even name in comparison. What a song, but then you add the live elements from the choir and it just dominates!
1. Let My Love Open The Door - Pete Townshend 2. Sacrilege – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
3. Runaway Baby - Bruno Mars 4. Miss Misery - Elliot Smith

Ain't That a Kick in the Head- Dean Martin
In a vocal focus round, gotta bring some identifiable stamp to the party. Here, it’s all about the swag. Great choice for the round. Love this song, and it really does a great job of wanting me to go back and live during the era.
------------------------------------------------------------
Run Around Sue- Dion & The Belmonts
Great choice for vocal feature! Marking out for this! Time travel IS possible. I’m swept away and miss the type of vocal that is emitted from a performance like this. So clean and well done. Just good fun amid some real talent.
--------------------------------------------------------------
And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going- Jennifer Hudson
This is the sole reason I (embarrassedly) bought the DreamGirls soundtrack. Note to reality singing show competitors: stop singing this song. You’re showing off every weakness you have as a vocalist. Jennifer Hudson … wow. Good pick for the round to say the least. You were asked to give an outstanding vocal performance, and there’s nothing else I can say but “nailed it!” Kudos to the judges who may dock this for overdramatics. I totally get that, and it can totally be a turn-off. In 10 years, I may very well hate this song. But yeah, I’m just feeling this in the moment and it’s paying off on this particular day. It’s a tough song to judge that can really polarize a panel due to the overdramatics.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Easy to Live- The Jezabels
Love the vocal flavor here as well. There is really no wrong answer in this round. Four candidates who all basically tie. The instrumentals help with the vocal a lot. Just overall, I might give this one the edge because of how everything blends. It’s supposed to be a vocal feature, yes, and I think we have that here. Just as an overall song, this one has the goods and it might give an ever so slight edge for me personally. Battling it out with the Hudson pick above.
1. And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going- Jennifer Hudson 2. Easy to Live- The Jezabels 3. Run Around Sue- Dion & The Belmonts 4. Ain’t That a Kick in the Head – Dean Martin

We have all the songs in for Round 31: Passing the Torch. I'll send them to the judges momentarily and set up a new thread.
