Here's a bunch of rambling thoughts.
Round # 17 (Tributes) Thoughts:- I hope you guys liked some real
*Elevator Music* for that round. I mentioned Elevator music earlier in the contest and thought to be cheeky and submit The Vaccines - "Teenage Icon" Music video. The song doesn't just mention Frankie Avalon and John Lennon, it also tributes rock music styles of the past, if you listen closely and even watch the vibe of the video, you'll notice influences. Judges seemed lukewarm on it that round, but I hope the contestants liked it.
- I was so "mad" when I saw Janis Joplin chosen before I could by someone else (Great tastes
King Boo), but a different song. The funny thing about what
pegasuswarrior and Roxie said, was that I always thought, growing up that "Crybaby" was Janis Joplin's main song. It was the first song I heard from her and for a while, the only one I knew she had, that I always just kind of assumed that it was. I had not even heard about her other more popular songs, as Roxie and PW mentioned until those singing contest shows started appearing. Also, I love Joplin - Female singers with a little rasp and power are some of my favorites that I even use in this competition (Alabama Shakes, Baby Animals, Paloma Faith, Pat Benatar).
Pegasus, you used a different Janis Joplin song, I remember it fondly, too bad I didn't score it as well as I should have, at the time, I think.
- Bruno Mars Medley by Victoria Justice & Max Schneider, was pretty cool for me actually, I quite enjoyed it. It may be my inner Bruno-Mars-Mark showing, but I love the little tributes they had itself in the video to him, like the touches of Hawaii included, since Bruno Mars grew up here. I also appreciate hearing from some of these talented young singers/instrumentalists on youtube.
- "Down at the Twist and Shout" by Mary Chapin Carpenter is one of my old music teacher's (who is also my neighbor) favorite songs. I think she made my class sing it once, so I only just remembered it when I saw it here.
- I actually like "Smoking in the Boys Room", but I prefer the original by Brownsville Station.
- I honestly thought "Uptown Girl" was the song used before - because I thought Pegasus used it before, but it was a different Billy Joel song, and I think I almost considered using this song in a past game before too, but didn't. Turns out I was wrong.

Round #18 (School Daze/Names/Numbers) Thoughts:- WALK THE MOON is one of my favorite new/current bands right now. They're just really, really fun/clever and top notch, and they even sound great live:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZIJE7z57AnQ (
Here they are on Conan.). I saw the theme, and I thought "Anna Sun! Perfect fit, I hope they do well, probably not, but I can hope!" The song is school related too. The song is named after one of their university professors - They just thought her name was really cool and they wanted to pay homage to her and their University life. The song itself is pretty much about the fun/party side of college or school/youth, or something of that sort. They didn't actually have a Crush on Professor Anna Sun, despite popular opinion. Side-comment: The lead singer, Nicholas Petricca seems to change his appearance a lot, I found funny. Plus the band has a thing for using little touches of face paint in their performances ever since the "Anna Sun" video (which must have been filmed a while back, since they look younger here).
I'm really glad to see Pegasuswarrior and Z-A (And maybe even J) seem to appreciate them, as much as I do. They're a great band.
- I was actually a bit more confident in my other choice "One Word" by Baby Animals. Then I saw
cageking666 's negative review, where he seemed to hate the song, and I lost a lot of that confidence, and then lost more when I saw it score really low. It was a sad day, because I always thought Baby Animals was a very under-rated Australian band from the early 90s. (I have actually used quite a lot of International bands/artists this competition already, but I think this is the first time I've mentioned it - maybe I'll do so, later). It seems that, female led rock of 80s-90s doesn't seem to be very popular around FAN anymore, not like in past contests. Shame, since it's one of my favorite genres. Anyway, I wanted to give the band some exposure and I thought there would be a positive response for them, but yeah I don't regret this choice at all, they're fantastic!
-
TOO SWEET I loved the Fratellis' pick. I honestly forgot about that song. I knew the tune, but forgot who sang it and what it was called. PS, I also thought Roxie might have chosen Chelesea Daggers. It was the first thought to cross my mind when I saw the title.
- The Wallflowers! I was going to use them this contest (almost did one round, but I left them as an alternate choice instead), I wanted to use them in past contests I was in, but couldn't fit them into any themes. There were three songs in particular I wanted to use, and "6th Avenue Heartache" was one of them.
- Jack and Diane was another song I wanted to use in past contests, but didn't get a chance to. I think I was beaten to the punch using John Cougar Mellencamp in one contest by someone else. I always liked this song.
- Decemberists! Somehow I knew
stinger chose this one (It was Stinger right? I forgot). I was going to choose a different song, but I still cheered for their use.
- Bad Touch huh? You and me baby we're nothing but mammals, so let's do it like they do on the discovery channel.... Somehow it sounded much more fun/entertaining in my head than actually hearing it. I used to enjoy this song as a kid, but that did not age well apparently. Leave the memories alone. :<
- I enjoyed several others this round, but I'll stop myself before I start complimenting everything. (Elvis Costello, Azealia Banks....)

Other thoughts (I'm sleepy, but oh well I'll sleep right after) -
- Tyger's write-ups are really, really awesome. I love still style way more than the Idol style of past game. Tyger is probably my favorite game host ever. I think if I retire from the contest, it has to be one as magical as Tyger's. Yeah, magical.
- Massive momentum boosts for Z-A these past couple rounds, it's exactly what somebody needs in a contest like this to take you far. It worked for Strykerdarksilence and Junkenstein when they got momentum going for a long time. It's what I probably need sometime soon. I don't think I've had a really positive score since... "Emmylou" by First Aid Kit, I think, and that was like 10 rounds ago, I think.
- I hope I regain some momentum soon, probably not gonna be in this round, though. I'm probably going to be part of the bottom 3 again, specifically because I know one judge has stated they hated something in music, which one of my choices happens to have.
- I was really happy to see Gus Richlen's very positive review of the Numbers theme last round for nearly all of us. I'm glad he liked Baby Animals. c:
- Picking a songs for Round #19, made me think that I could have really used that bonus extra song. I think some of my suggestions for themes to Tyger are fitted in to this round. I would have used that *song somebody else claimed for the round* with my two that I ended up going with. Though I would've gone for a live version.
- Gosh, I so should have saved WALK THE MOON for the next round #20 (if I'm still here next round).
- I'm happy to see Spartan and CK saved. I love chatting with these two, and I enjoy seeing the neat quirk they add to these games with their selections. CK may seem to dislike a lot of what I like (from chats and his lists), but I've really enjoyed some of the music he's brought into the game (Tegan and Sara for example, I learned about them from him) A lot of Spartan's style of music reminds me of what I used to really enjoy when I was a little younger and I'm glad I get to see them in the contest as I'm scared to submit them myself sometimes. I do wish the "save' part was still around though. If somehow there's like a Jazzman or Roxie Daggers vs ANONYMOUS Sing off (not the kind of team up I had in mind!!!) for example.
- I changed my avatar, because of the whole black and white mask thing in Tyger's write-up that I seem to be anonymously wearing, haha.
- I hope
J manages to judge this round! I'm sorta depending on you just to test out if we really do like the same things, Honey, I mean Nutella. (Unless you screw me over, then we're over
)
-
{Spoiler}There's a former contestant who might know my selections. Maybe.
- I'll respond back to any PM's I get, after work/after bed.
