While Striker could be occasionally over the top with some of his references and stories, he at least gave enough of a damn to try. You could tell that Striker really enjoyed his job and tried to do the best that he could with what little he was given to work with from the asshats that he had to sit next to.
I'm hoping he can land a gig somewhere that puts his talents to much better use.

He was an infinitely better commentator than Lawler (though that's damning with the faintest of praise), but he's not a legend, so my ears must suffer.

He went from one half of a Slammy winning commentary team to being relegated to backstage segments within a year... shame because he was at least trying to put forth effort and call matches when guys like Cole would just shout over him.
Maybe he could go to TNA and rejoin his former running buddy Robbie E.

I like Matt, but the thing that annoyed me about him would be how he would make references to stuff he wasn't supposed to, but do it in a coded way, like saying "don't forget what the second 'W' in WWE stands for." You mean actually commentate on wrestling rather than living in fantasy "sports entertainment WWE Universe land"?

That kind of sucks. I liked Matt Striker on commentary. He was a decent backstage announcer as well.

Striker was a really good announcer, as long as he was toned down a bit. When he started going over-the-top with the nicknames and references, it got pretty bad, yet still somewhat better than Lawler. Hopefully he finds a place that'll suit him better.

Can't say I'll miss him, because he really wasn't doing anything, but I liked him, and hope he stays in the business. Really liked him on comentary and wished they would have kept him there. Another talent wasted by WWE.

I did like Striker on commentary until he decided to become the Peter Drury of commentary, basically a pretentious douche.
For people who don't know Peter Drury he commentates on football (s*****) on ITV and seems to think he's commentating on ballet or opera or something. ie a pretentious douche.

That's a lot of slack for Josh to pick up in the 'interviewers getting beat up' category.

Matt and Chris Jericho sounded like they were having a blast re-watching Lionheart's classic match against Ultimo Dragon. Band/musician references, wrestling terminology, etc. It's too bad, hope he lands on his feet with something he'll enjoy.

Striker knew his stuff, and definitely was a more enjoyable commentator than Lawler. If he didn't f*** up so badly at the 2011 Rumble, he'd probably still be a major commentator for the show

All I've learned from this thread is that I miss Dirty Curty. Seriously though, sad to see him go. Seemed like he actually had a passion for DIS BUSINESS. Dirty Curty was the greatest thing ever. Anyway, as much as I didn't like Matt Striker's stupid nicknames, I did like when he was doing "Best WWEek, Worst WWEek" on WWE.com.

I found him annoying but there was that time he quoted Red Barchetta on commentary during a Morrison match.

Striker's already got work - he'll be on the commentary team for Family Wrestling Entertainment for their iPPV tonight, on WWNLive.com, which ironically features WWE-bound Rob Van Dam against Tommy Dreamer, Carlito vs. John Morrison, and several other former TV wrestlers.

Striker really seemed to struggle after they broke his team with Todd Gresham up (and Gresham struggled without Striker to be fair). I thought he was doing fine with King and Cole until he really just started marking out all the time (not just him saying that, but when Bryan returned to fight the Nexus just yelling American Dragon and Cattle Mutilation was distracting)
