Bad commentator, but he could sell the shit out of his product. Made events seem big.

I loved how he would unquestionably add the word "unquestionably" into every other sentence.

Vince McMahon's commentary is so bad that he makes Tony Schiavone look like Bobby Heenan. That weird voice that he uses is just eurgh. Vince isn't fit to carry Tony's jockstrap. Tony was definitely phoning it in in the last few years of WCW, but in his prime he was just as good as JR and anyone who thinks otherwise is just following WWE's revisionist history.

Eh, I liked clean cut announcer Vince. Cole does have his moments, but as previously stated, he does have a tendency at times to rip on not-perfect segments or not show any real interest in lower card matches. Vince wasn't the most knowledgable guy as far as movesets, but he made practically everything seem important. Plus he was an ideal straight man to Ventura. Yup, I really liked his enthusiasm. He cared about every wrestler on the roster and tried to make all of them seem like they had a fighting chance (even local jobbers). It's a lot better than Cole/Lawler seeing a match between two midcarders and then immediately talking about an uninvolved main eventer, instead.

He was the polar opposite of Jim Ross & Gordon Solie, but the OTT carnival barker was perfect for 1980's WWF.

That's a bit of an unfair thing to say. I'm a WCW mark. I just always enjoyed Tenay and Hudson way more than Schiavone.

Back then, Vince was enthusiastic in his own product.
Now, he just doesn't seem to be. The Michael Cole heel character was an insight into Vince's views on WWE.

He was really good in the 80s and early 90s, especially when he was paired with Jesse. They even still had it during that retro Raw. In the mid 90s he changed his announcing style for some reason. He was too excited for everything, way over using that fake, losing his breath voice.

He has his strengths and weaknesses like any announcer, but I think he was one of the best all time at making events seem like huge deals.

I have to agree 100 with DiG. I used to think Vince was corny but fun however when I recently watched the Best of RAW 93/94 (That's a hell of a misleading title btw) it was just painful. Forced, unfunny and tired. An unpleasant experience all round
His rumble intros were fantastic but that's it

I liked him, but when they gave HBK that major push in 1996 he kinda went overboard.
At the In Your House before WM 12 (1996), Shawn was dancing on top of the house (IYH had an actual house as it's entrance), and Vince just went crazy: "WOULD YOU LOOK AT THAT! HE'S THE MOST INCREDIBLE MAN IN ALL OF SPORTS ENTERTAINMENT!!!!".

He's the only person in the world who could make Henry Godwinn seem like a main event level talent by his enthusiasm.
