Vince McMahon really was bad on commentary

He was the worst at doing in-ring/ringside interviews with heels and calling them out, he'd start nodding and making these dumb faces, no idea what he was tring to do. Was I supposed to find it intimidating or cool?

Vince's only purpose was to be ripped on by Jesse Ventura. Beyond that he was atrocious.

I grew up listening to Vince on commentary so I have nothing but love for him. His over the top salesmanship on the mic fit the colorful comic book characters of the 80's.

Vince never bothered me as much in the 80s. I think it was mostly because I didn't stay up late as much for SNME and his work on Superstars didn't make much of an impression either way. To me Gorilla, Heenan, and Ventura were the main announcers. It was mostly when Vince took over the main announcing on Raw that I truly realized how horrible this man is at announcing. He's constantly over the top, has terrible cliches ("1-2-3 he got him, no!"), etc. In fact I really associate the whole Vince/Lawler announce team with an entire bad era of WWF shows.

I remember whenever he was on commentary and something pissed him off (The Hart Foundation/British Bulldog match Danny Davis was being corrupt in, for example) he'd go into the really loud Mr. McMahon voice we know and love him for these days.

I loved him as a kid. Even that cheesy fake laugh. He was like the old uncool dad on vacation, out of touch but really endearing.
