How Absurd

If I understand correctly, O&A *shock value guys* stomp on a homeless dudes cake and everyone has a laugh, they give him a couple of hundred bucks. There is a decent amount of outrage going on, and I know you fine folks at FAN got da scoop, tell King what's the deal. If there is already a thread on it, help me out, the search functions confuses and worries me.

7 years ago Opie and Anthony did their radio show in two separate studios and usually got caught up in some shenanigans as they recorded their walkover from one to the other. They had an interaction with a homeless guy Andrew who was a recurring character of sorts on the show. He had a past due cake that he dug up from the garbage of a bakery, was showing it to the boys and Opie stomped on it for the cringe factor of it all. In true Reddit fashion they got a hold of the video, started a witch hunt for Opie where instead of seeking the true context of the video (the fact that Andrew was a friend, the fact that Opie & Anthony and their listeners have given him hundreds of dollars collectively, the fact that the video itself is seven years old) made up their own context as they went along to make Opie seem like a bigger monster (a standout hypothesis being "what if that was a cake given to him by his cancer-ridden mother after seeing each other for the last time").
So it was the slacktivist cause de jour for the day, some people starting up crowd funding projects that went nowhere to provide cake to Andrew with his name on it, with no confirmation of where he is or if he's even alive to enjoy it, nevermind the fact that he was on the show a short while after and needed to be told about the incident about 3 different ways before he remembered it even happened. I don't think the fervor is as strong anymore because that's how internet outrage works, find evidence of foul play, talk like you intend on spending the rest of your life to never let something like that happen again, sleep and forget.

It's a mountain out of a mole hill. Especially given everything about it is readily available if anyone bothered to look. 1. Andrew was supported by the boys from the show and fans many, many times. 2. The cake was explicitly from the trash. 3. He got more money as a direct result of the cake squashing than he would have otherwise, with the sympathy he got on the spot, from the horrified fans. Opie and Anthony regularly have had homeless people as guests on the program or organized shopping sprees for them. They get good radio, and the homeless people benefit from it. Opie adores coming across as a prick to fans. It's regularly a part of the product that he intentionally plays the heel, hanging up on phone guests if he feels they will be boring, etc. It's nothing new to an O&A fan and it's just part of what makes the show entertaining. If people want to be outraged, let them increase his stock in the world. I'm sure he's thrilled he has "gone viral". (Linger longer, b-b-b-boys. )

Yeah, context changes everything.
Though, maybe people will see this and get so absolutely pissed off that they start donating food to homeless shelters or giving homeless people a bite to eat when they can.

I was wondering why this suddenly popped up on Sirius XM's Facebook page. People posted the video with cries of "FIRE OPIE AND ANTHONY! OMG HOW CAN THEY BE SO MEAN!"
I don't listen to their show but I do frequent a SXM message board and not a single thread about this existed. That's when I noticed how old the video was.

Redditors come across so informed about some things, others they act like the KKK at the Gay Pride Parade. No bashing intended I just wonder if O&A's pests are still in full force from when I listened to them every day back in 06-08. If so, this could get ugly between them and Reddit.

Not sure, as I don't hang around Wack Bag or other places they'd gather. That said, they do have some activity still, which comes into play every Jocktober.

The O&A presence on Reddit is pretty strong. They brought it hard for "Opiegate".

Very well put. Nothing really more to add, except when the next time they saw Andrew (where he didn't even remember it happening), they also gave him some cupcakes and other treats, that weren't expired or layered with Opie's footprints. It's fake outrage over a seven year old prank, just for the sake of looking like people care about some kind of cause (in this case, the homeless). Hey gang, remember Kony? Exactly.

Yeah I laughed pretty heard seeing this on Reddit's front page because of how old it is. But I'll admit, the only thing I liked about O&A was that they let Patrice say whatever he wanted. Now that he's gone, no reason for me to listen.

I love that voice he used when he was "singing" Bad Romance because it's the voice he always used to mock people he thought were complete idiots.

Now that he's gone, no reason for me to listen. Patrice was on a level all his own for sure but I love hearing the boys (particularly Jimmy) discussing freedom of speech issues. I still think they cover that better than anyone in the media with or without Patrice.

He's pretty funny too, but for the most part I still prefer not to hear Opie and Ant try to funny.

I didn't know Opie and Anthony were still on the air. Are they just doing the Satellite thing?
In Chicago, they always moved them around (the ratings were never that good). However, they were a decent replacement after Howard Stern left.

However, they were a decent replacement after Howard Stern left. Yeah, they are fully on sattelite, as is Howard, though there are some who think Howard is going to try going back to terrestrial radio when his contract is up, or possibly leave the game altogether, given his hideously low amount of new content he has created as of late, preferring to play reruns constantly and vacation.

I still get Howard TV on demand. I rarely watch the new ones, only the ones from pre-Sirius. Howard has been doing the whole contract negotiation bit for years.
