With the Nexus angle Barrett was the main bad guy, for a while, a few years ago, feuding with Cener. He was getting good heat, and it seemed like within a year or so he would be a world champion, but that was 3 years ago and now he seems completely lost in the shuffle. In fact, I can't remember the last time he did anything of note, trying to shave Bryan or delivering bad news on JBL and Cole's show don't count.
It seems really strange because he is good on the mic, and good in the ring. I admit he's not outstanding in the ring, but he's done some good stuff in there. I guess that freak elbow injury really set him back. He's basically an afterthought now, which is a shame, because I would have pegged him as one of the 2 or 3 young guys to be a main event mainstay just a couple of years ago.
I guess there's still hope for him, but there are so many good young guys on the roster and at NXT, he may never get tp that point.

I thought for sure that he and Gabriel would be the break out stars of the group.

I never thought he'd be anywhere near the main event.

He should be. I thought for sure that he and Gabriel would be the break out stars of the group. Same, along with Bryan. At least he's been a success.

Never really liked Wade. Never felt he was anything special.

A friend of mine, seeing Barrett wrestle for the first time, said this:
"He's not that great, but I could see him as a villian in a B-Movie or something."

I think this comes down to the obsession with Randy Orton, and how awful he was in 2010. He overshadowed Barrett in his first main events, made them look unimportant and awful, and Barrett never really got another shot after that.

Has there been any reason given for his absence lately. I haven't seen him on TV since the beard thing.

The problem is that like The Rock he put wrestling on the back burner to focus on his acting career. I mean, virtuoso performances like his work in Dead Man Down don't just happen.

You know, I've always been high on Wade, but I can see why some people don't see anything special in him. He's decent in every department but there's nothing that makes him stand out above the rest. He's in the same category as Christian or Dolph Ziggler.

Today, he would be lucky if he could join Slater in the 3 Man Band.

There is absolutely no reason why Alberto Del Rio is in the position he's in and Wade is stuck jobbing every single week other than Del Rio is Mexican.
That is literally the only reason I can think of. Wade Barrett could and should be World Heavyweight Champion.

It's a shame they don't seem to be able to find something worthwile for him to do even if he's not a main-eventer, those awesome fight club vignettes didn't go anywhere and his role as a low-level McMahon henchman seems to have come to an end. His mic skills alone should warrant some kind of regular role, as I've said before he should get the "devils advocate gimmick".

I still kinda fear he'll be a part of a new Nexus stable...since Gabriel, Slater, Otunga & Axel seem dead in the water right now (screw the IC title)

One day he is going to make an awesome manager.
Hell he would be better used as one now.
Make him a manipulative shit stirrer with someone like Big E as his enforcer, basically have him use his hired muscle to fight all his fights, but the chicken shit thing about him is he is capable of fighting for himself but hides behind someone else.

That is literally the only reason I can think of. Wade Barrett could and should be World Heavyweight Champion. See, when I see Del Rio, I just see a top spot that should belong to about half a dozen other guys before him. Barrett as you mentioned being number one. I thought the idea of a top heel is that you wanted a guy fans would stand up and boo, not someone who made them sit on their hands/break out their cell phones/go to the concession stand/take a piss. Barrett always gets legitimate heat, and at one time could get more than just about anyone else until he got buried in chairs. Del Rio has feuded with the best babyfaces WWE has, and none of them could get him over. When you're a heel and a combination of John Cena, Rey Mysterio, Edge, CM Punk, Christian, and Rob Van Dam can't get you over - you suck.
