As an AJ Styles fan, it's great to see him doing well in New Japan and ROH.

The only regret here would be we didn't get Styles vs Devitt for the IWGP title before Devitt left.

I wouldn't necessarily say TNA "didn't want" Styles - they offered him way less money to stay, and Styles for his position was right to turn them down. When you low ball a talented veteran with a lot to give the way TNA did, I'm inclined to say they were pretty indifferent to Styles being there. This is the same AJ Styles that got shoved to the wayside every time someone from WWE wound up in TNA. Sure, TNA can be considered the house that AJ built, and I feel TNA is extremely ungrateful about it. Good on Styles though. I think the New Japan big stage is a more appropriate setting for AJ's talents. Also, Okada had a great run, but I think his reign was at the point where people were closely examining the challengers and thinking about who was going to beat him rather than enjoying Okada as champ. I'll take Styles vs Ibushi any time now.

Great for AJ Styles. Just when he was written off as being in the twilight of his career, he finds his groove once leaving the confines of TNA.

There's A LOT of fresh match ups for Styles in New Japan making this a great move. Styles vs Swagsuke could be amazing. I also wouldn't mind Styles vs Nagata.

Wow. One man's trash is another man's treasure. That's the second time TNA didn't want someone and they became the IWGP Champion. That's pretty big, and that will be pretty big with ROH coming up, considering one of their guys is the IWGP Champion. And not just that, but now they have one of their top feuds at the moment with TWO fantastic matches now have a trilogy capper and for the top belt in Japan. ROH is cackling to the pay window.

Since Okada isn't the heavyweight champion, that means that Tanahashi can challenge for it, right?

I don't think Tanahashi is beating Styles for the gold, and Styles isn't going to be losing it either for a while. For Styles to win the IWGP Heavyweight Title as fast as he did shows that the current leadership in New Japan has a LOT of trust in AJ and are expecting him to deliver big time which in that environment he will.
I predict that AJ's win will be the catalyst for some shaking up in New Japan. Mostly the big Chaos split will be going down with Nakamura vs Okada going down.

8. Wrestling vs. Jiu-jitsu MMA Fight: The Gracies(Daniel & Rolles) d. Shinsuke Nakamura & Kazushi Sakuraba via submission at 8:30 when Rolles used a sleeper hold on Sakuraba to get his team the win.
9. IWGP Heavyweight Championship Match: AJ Styles d. Kazuchika Okada via pin at 24:31 with the Styles Clash to win the match & become the new IWGP Heavyweight Champion.* The Bullet Club finally rose to the top of New Japan as new leader AJ Styles ended the epic IWGP Heavyweight Title reign of Kazuchika Okada in a major shock today. Okada had held the title for 13 months & survived 8 challenges, seemingly unstoppable, only for Styles to beat him in his New Japan debut today! As per usual in Bullet Club matches, there was interference galore to help the man who has replaced America-bound Prince Devitt as the leader, including a hooded figure who turned out to be...CHAOS member Yujiro Takahashi! Yujiro completed his betrayal of CHAOS & turn to the Bullet Club by dropping Okada with the Tokyo Pimps before Styles finished the champion off with a Bloody Sunday & Styles Clash to become the 60th IWGP Heavyweight Champion! Styles is also the first foreign champion since Brock Lesnar in 2005-2006. The former TNA star made an instant impact & declared that the Bullet Club would take the other IWGP Titles not already held by them. Styles' first defense is due for May 17th against Michael Elgin in the ROH/New Japan shows in America. * After their win in the elimination tag match, Hiroshi Tanahashi & Togi Makabe challenged Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows for a shot at the IWGP Tag Team Titles. Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata came out to then step up to Tanahashi & Makabe. Shibata challenged Tanahashi to a singles match. * Two titles were successfully defended back to back today & the outcome could be the winners soon facing each other. Kota Ibushi overcame Ryusuke Taguchi in his V3 defense of the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title, after that, Tomohiro Ishii successfully defended the NEVER Openweight Title against Tomoaki Honma. After the NEVER match, Ibushi challenged Ishii & they could soon meet for the NEVER Openweight Title.

Absolutely f***ing disgusted to see this little small-time redneck nobody from TNA as the IWGP champion now. No words for how lame this is. And the match itself was shitty and filled with so many run-ins, felt like some goddamn episode of WCW Nitro from the late 90s. I'm ready to vomit.

A couple things I noticed when during the Styles/Okada match.
Styles needs to eliminate the moonsault/inverted ddt from his moveset. I don't think a springboard moonsault or an inverse ddt on their own would be bad, but he can't seem to connect crisply with that move to save his life.
I also think Styles' more ground based offense works well for him. The Calf Killer looks like it should be making people tap immediately. I'd like to see him utilize some more submissions. I think the Fuller Lock would also be a good hold for Styles to use that would also work the leg.
I think Bullet Club is here to stay for a while. That type of stable may be played to death in the U.S. but its pretty new and can have a long shelf life in New Japan if booked correctly. Bullet Club is what Aces and Eights should have been, and with more talent.

To be honest, I was pretty bored with Okada as champion. So I'm pretty damn happy with this result, also helps that I really like Styles. I hope we get a Tanahashi/Styles 2 asap.
