So in most fandoms, there's almost always at least one character that's supposed to be seen as really attractive. The one who's either a big time player/whore/stud/etc and can get anyone they want, or someone who gets the most attention from the opposite sex even if they're not trying to. Whichever the case, it's still proven in canon that the character is attractive and/or desirable to the people around them.
But sometimes it just fails to come through that way for the viewer. Maybe because their bad personality hinders their hotness, or because the actor/ess isn't a good fit for the roll, or maybe because you personally never found them attractive and therefore don't get what all the other characters see in him/her.
For instance: Kristen Stewart is not hot, and nobody will ever convince me otherwise. Even on a good day, she's average; and that's assuming she doesn't have that vacant look on her face, or the appearance of having just rolled out of bed. Now, I'm not going to bitch about Twilight, where she had two guys fighting over her despite having the personality of a cardboard box, but I am going to bitch about her being cast as Snow White while playing opposite of Charlize Theron, because suggesting that Stewart is more attractive than Theron is insulting enough, and to suggest that she is also 'The Fairest of Them All' is downright blasphemous.
On the flip-side, I also don't get what the women saw in Kelso from That 70s Show. I mean, I suppose out of the four main guys of the group Ashton Kutcher would probably be the hottest (those of you who are actually attracted to men will have to confirm), and it was shown that most of the women he got were either slutty (Laurie, Pam Macey) or shallow (Jackie), but seriously, how brain-dead does a guy have to be before even the easiest women say "I can do better"?
Other examples?

I don't see the appeal of Emma Watson.

I don't see the appeal of Emma Watson. I didn't either. Until I saw this gif: I also happen to find Kristen Stewart very cute. In an effort to stay on topic though, there was a period in the mid-aughts when film producers tried to cast Paris Hilton as attractive characters. I did not think that worked at all.

Sarah Jessica Parker. They should have switched her role with Kristen Davis

Actually, I find that most people think I'M the weird one for thinking Kristen Stewart is very attractive.
On topic, I cannot stand Jennifer Lawrence. She looks like melted butter and has gross fish lips. She also has that weird obsessive cult around her that worships her because they think they have a chance which makes it worse because they are really, really annoying. Kind of like AJ.

Taste is subjective, particularly when it comes to beauty. That said, I have never personally had any attraction to Paris Hilton. It does not make people who find her attractive strange, stupid, or shallow, however, at least, for merely liking her.

Kristen Stewart is really attractive. I've never seen twilight, but she was really good in Take Me Home Tonight and didn't come off as "wooden" or a bad actress like people claim she is.

I thought she was really good in THE RUNAWAYS, and I also liked her in ADVENTURELAND though I found that film as a whole unsavory.

Sarah Jessica Parker. Horse face jokes aside I was having this discussion with my missus (who is a big fan of SATC) and she agreed for the life of her couldn't understand (well actually she does executive producer) why the show acted like she was pinnacle of all feminine beauty when out of all the main cast in the show she is by far the least attractive women.

I'm gonna go with some of the WWE divas in the past and present. The commentators act like they are goddesses when some of them looked all leathery or had man-ish or very blank faces. Meanwhile a lot of actual prettier divas were booked as "plain", "fat" or jealous of those divas looks.

Lol, I don't get this thread. How can something mean to be attractive I think they mean if a character is presented as "This is the hot chick of the movie" or "This is the dude all the girls like".

For men, I don't get what's so attractive about Ashton Kutcher either. Echo that for Robert Pattinson.
For women, I agree with Sarah Jessica Parker.

I think Kristen Stewart is cute, I think a lot of the issue is how they make her look in Twilight.
As a straight guy, I never got the appeal of Shia Lebauf. Maybe it's because he'll always be Louis Stevens to me.

I never found Alicia Fox attractive. I think it's largely to do with her weird belly button.

Miranda from the Mass Effect series immediately comes to mind. in theory a character designed to look like Yvonne Strahovski should be really hot, and is treated as such in-story. in practice, she got smacked with a SEVERE case of Uncanny Valley, and the constant butt-shots just come off as distractingly silly.

to be fair, she's not ugly, she's just not anywhere near as "super-hot" as she's made out to be. and she's still too good looking for the rather ghoulish-looking Johnny.
