Felix Hernandez's defense did him no favors in defeat on Monday, as he allowed six runs -- two earned -- over seven innings of a loss to the Astros.

Tonight, Masahiro Tanaka takes the mount against the Red Sox at Fenway. This is gonna be his first real test in the majors and I'm hoping he passes with flying colors.

In addition to that, tonight is Jacoby Ellsbury's return to Boston. I'm curious to see what kind of reception he receives. Most fans should (and will) cheer because Ellsbury was a key cog in the Red Sox 2013 championship team, and he was also integral to their winning in 2007, stepping in for a slumping Coco Crisp and putting on a show against the Rockies. He was also one of the few Red Sox of the deplorable and detestable 2011 edition that played and acted like he gave a damn while the team fell apart in September. Those who boo will presumably do so because he took the money and went to the arch rivals in New York, ignoring the fact that the Red Sox were never truly in on Ellsbury from the start. They were never going to come close to approaching what the Yankees gave him in years or dollars.

I'd expect any Boston player who went to the Yankees in free agency to be mercilessly booed and vice versa. That's just the nature of their rivalry. I think the only exception was when David Wells was on the Red Sox because it's impossible to boo the guy.

So what did you guys think about that ruling on Ellsbury in the 1st? I think it was fair. That's also the umpires' prerogative since Ellsbury is a really fast guy. If it was a slower runner like Beltran or Teixeira I'd say keep him at second. Fans also need to be less stupid about these things.

That tribute to Jacoby Ellsbury at the beginning of the game was pretty classy. Glad the Red Sox fans defied my expectations and gave him a good round of applause in appreciation to what he did for them.

The 500 HR club has a new member in Albert Pujols. Apparently he's the first player in history to hit his 499th and 500th in the same game.
