Going to be another long year for Houston long battle with the Mariners for 5th place I hope Adrian Beltre Robinson Cano is content with never playing for a winning team again.

Looks like Nova will be needing Tommy John surgery. Nuno will most-likely be taking his spot in the rotation.

Carlos Gomez is one of the biggest assholes in baseball. Whoever out him on his back today deserves a medal.

I'm glad my life didn't depend on a Cardinals pitcher finding the strikezone today.

Just watched the Gomez induced brawl a few times and, you know what, I'm thinking Gomez should get twice the suspension for his role in the initial dust up/fight and the throwing of the helmet that got it going again, and whomever landed the shot on him deserves the knock out of the night award.

Valverde takes 5 minutes between pitches. White Sox win one, 16-2. The most boring two hitter ever. Johnson walked leadoff men in the first four innings and escaped with a win.

Not anything to do with the season, but I had an "I'm getting old" and "Am I a wuss or is it manly to be a wuss about this?" moment. Busted out the VCR and decided to watch some games I taped (damn it) in 1995. Happened to watch (start to finish) Cal's 2131, and admittedly when the game went official and he hugs his kids and the crowd did the 15 minute (at least) continuous ovation, I got choked up. Surreal moment from my teen years, and then to realize that the "young guys" in the game are all pretty much long since retired now.

Reading comments from Brewers fans have been rather amusing tonight. Reading comments from actual Brewers players? Hilarious.

Even Ryan Braun looks like he's yelling to Carlos, "What's your boggle?"

I have to admit: watching the brawl, my first thought was "Cole's actually going to get that pissed over a stupid bat flip?" Hell, Gomez nearly gave him an out by not busting out of the box.
Doesn't excuse Gomez snapping and flying into violence at seemingly the quickest provocation, but some ballplayers need to learn to deal with it when other guys "show them up". Don't like it? Either strike them out next time or just plunk him on the back next time and get it over with.

Bobby Abreu apparently dropped a bunch of weight in the last year, hit well in Winter League/Spring Training/AAA, and will be joining the Mets big league roster tonight as the primary lefty pinch hitter.
I'm...actually ok with this, so long as he's not expected to play much in the field.

so in retrospect, we might have been too fast to talk down to mccaan for preventing gomez to score last year huh? No, Brian McCann was still an overbearing prick in that incident last September and deserves all of the blame for how it escalated, but it's easy to see that Carlos Gomez isn't going out of his way to make any friends. You've got to wonder if Gomez just has a massive Napoleon complex and thinks that acting out like this is his way of lashing out at his perceived detractors. Gomez was a star prospect and the centerpiece of the deal that landed Johan Santana in New York, and then he went to Minnesota and failed to live up to his sky-high expectations. He was a perfectly average player, but nowhere near the future All-Star that the Twins thought they were acquiring in 2008. Then, he finally turns it around last season and proves that he is the player he always thought he was, and his response is to lash out and be vindictive, pretty much telling the world, "I knew I was this good, you just stopped believing in me." None of it excuses his behavior, because he is a colossal head case and is prone to just snapping at any whim, but it would at least give reason to his actions.

If he can finally put a healthy year together, Jenrry Mejia is going to be huge for the Mets this year.
2-0 win over the Cards; that's big. If they even just take one more game in this 4 game set I'm perfectly content with that.
