TNA: Our own Bully Ray was featured on a Buzzfeed list with big name celebrities like Alec Baldwin and Eminem!
Who cares what it's for!

They misspelled queah. It's good that Bully Ray's douchebag behavior is noticed, but a shame that Aries' is probably lost to the dirtsheets of time.

Sadly, this is the most positive press TNA has received in the last 8 months.

What's the context of this? Was Bully Ray being a heel, or was this some stupid argument on his Twittah Machine.

What's the context of this? Was Bully Ray being a heel, or was this some stupid argument on his Twittah Machine. It was at, IIRC, a house show where a fan was heckling him and Bully Ray got into the guys face at ringside. I know Bully tries to keep in the heel gimmick but to me it came off as just not being good enough and trying to resort to heel-like tactics and he wound up taking it too far. I think Punk did similar to a fan at a house show but rather than yelling it, Punk just mouthed or whispered words. And Great Grappler is right, this will probably be a rallying point during backstage morale meetings.

The thing that annoys me about homophobia is the way people think it's atoned for with a half-assed apology.
"Oh I said it but I'm not really homophobic"
If you're not homophobic the idea to say it would never have popped into your head in the first place to say it.

Not much to do with the article, but I'm so beyond over Bully Ray, that dude needs to hang it up.

As a bi dude I actually really don't have a problem with this. It fits his character and he's done it for years anyway. It's certainly not the most creative or original insult but it fits his character perfectly to be a homophobic dickhead.

"fruity" in this instance probably means prissy rather than necessarily gay.

They know wrestling is a work, right? Is it heel heat? Yes. Is it tasteless heel heat? Yes. It's not much different than a villain in the movie using a slur. Villains aren't supposed to care about somebody's feelings. They can be racist, sexist, and homophobic. Since it's all entertainment, wrestlers should get the same leeway as actors. There is a difference between Bully Ray saying something and (goes to Wikipedia) Mark LoMonaco saying something. Actors get carte blanche to say or do anything in movies. Wrestlers should more or less get the same leeway at live events.
I think it was unnecessary for him to do it, though. It's just also unnecessary for him to be labeled as a homophobe when he's done nothing to deserve it(that I am aware of) beyond playing a part. It cheapens a term that already gets used too freely.

"Oh I said it but I'm not really homophobic" If you're not homophobic the idea to say it would never have popped into your head in the first place to say it. Does using "lame" mean you have a hatred for physically handicapped people? Does using "absurd" mean you have a hatred for deaf people? Does using "dumb" mean you have a hatred for mute people? Does using "retarded", "moronic" or "idiotic" (the latter two actually being demonstrably worse insults) mean you have a hatred for mentally handicapped people? To say a pro wrestler can't use a term for the sole purpose of generating a theatric negative reaction is just as sensical as saying that Tumblr feminist superstar Ryan Gosling actually hates women because he tried to strangle Sandra Bullock to death in Murder By Numbers.

The problem with wrestling is that you have a guy like Bully who takes his heel status very seriously which has been noticeable by fans at autograph conventions. No way he can come off as negative towards fans if he wasn't trying to be in character. If wrestlers want to make it seem like it's all still real then they should have to face the consequences of their actions. My personal opinion is that it comes down to the wrestler not being that great at their position. An old school heel probably never had to resort to anti-gay verbiage in a time when it becomes a media crapstorm against them.
