Just watched After Midnight (1989) since I was in the mood for another anthology movie. Kind of lame so since this is a thread about recommendations I'll add another one and say The New York Ripper.

Many years ago I watched a movie called "Alone in the Dark" (no, not the Uwe Boll movie)... Hell of a cast (Jack Palance, Martin Landau, Erland Van Lidth from "Running Man", Dwight Schultz from "The A-Team" and Star Trek: TNG", with a small appearance by Donald Pleasence). Four mental patients escape from the hospital to hunt down and kill their new doctor because they're convinced he killed their previous doctor. Great fun horror movie.

Wolf Creek.
It has John Jarratt in it who is probably one of the best Australian Actors not to make it overseas. Rest of the cast is kind of blah but it became a pretty big deal in the States.

Xtro. Not for the faint of heart, but it has some amazing physical effects, along with some genuinely creepy scenes. The name makes it sound like schlock, but it is really damn good. The birth sequence makes me physically ill to this day *shudder* Anyway I'll say "nightmares" a cool little anthology movie

I have two for you ManitouMarvel as Tony Curtis tries to stop an ancient native american spirit shaman from returning to life via his friends neck. Includes frozen medical wards, laser battles and exploding typewriters. The Deadly SpawnLow-budget but awesome alien worm spawn with a lot of teeth attacks american suburbia. Xtro. Not for the faint of heart, but it has some amazing physical effects, along with some genuinely creepy scenes. The name makes it sound like schlock, but it is really damn good. That film makes zero sense, despite starting off making perfect sense ... maybe. Why did a panther appear in an apartment??!!

The Child (aka Zombie Child) - 70s flick about a little girl who can command the dead. The acting isn't the best but it has some genuinely creepy moments throughout.
Dead Birds - Old West-ish setting sees bank robbers hole up in an abandoned farmhouse and discover they're not alone.

Night of the Demon-black and white mystery movie with surprisingly good effects for its age Don't Look Now-very trippy movie starring Donald Pleasance with a great trick ending The Call of Cthuly-modern day, direct to DVD movie that is a perfect telling of the story and a terrific blending of old style and modern cinema techniques

Great Australian horror film from the 70s that Quentin Tarantino borrowed from. that's a movie I've been looking for a copy of for a while. as for OP, if you want something schlocky I always recommend Pieces, a slasher movie that's beyond campy and gory as hell, with bad acting to boot. it works because it takes itself completely seriously in spite of the inherent silliness. for a more serious slasher I can't recommend The Burning or The Prowler enough. amazing effects, genuinely likeable characters and a mean-spirited tone that makes them legitimately scary. if you want something of the more supernatural oeuvre, and you've already checked out Argento's 3 Witches trilogy (more likely just Suspiria) and Fulci's Gates of Hell trilogy (all 3 are fantastic), I'd give Argento's Phenomena a watch. it stars a very young Jennifer Connelly and is pretty underrated. I also recommend the Phantasm series (the first is the best but it's one of those rare series that stays consistently good throughout).

I also suggest Willard-the original 1970's movie, not the crappy remake. A kinda silly movie but considered an indirect inspiration for both Jaws and Carrie.
