Stay in your car. The last place I'd want to confront someone at is a racetrack where guys are doing over 100 mph.
And I've read those kind of confrontations are not against the rules in Nascar.....which is just all kinds of stupid. You can't allow guys to charge out on the track. Something like this is bound to happen when that's allowed.

What an emotionally exhausting day and a half it has been as a racing fan.

Just watched the video. Never understood why drivers would want to walk towards a moving vehicle just because your pissed off at the guy who spun you out or wrecked you. Would think it would be better to confront them back in the garage. Granted, I drag race, and the one I'm usually pissed off at when I lose is myself, because I f***ed up somehow. Probably why I'll never run dirt tracks or circle tracks.
And ESPN wants to try and be unbiased, but they seem to be crucifying Tony Stewart for this horrible accident. Can't just lay it all on Tony because there are so many factors as to why this happened, and they never wait to hear the entire facts of the story. And I don't even like Tony Stewart. I think the guy's a massive prick.

On a positive note, Junior has taken over the points lead. Could this finally be the year Junior gets his first Sprint Cup Championship?

I want to get your take on this:
Would it still be OK for me going back and watch old races that Tony Stewart ended up winning? It's gonna feel a bit different watching old highlights of his wins. Some of my favorite NASCAR races to watch on YouTube were those he ended up winning (2001 Sharpie 500, 2001 Sears Point, 2005 Pepsi 400)
In other words, should I feel guilty about watching old Stewart highlights or would it make me look like a bad fan?

Unless it comes to light that Tony hit this man with intention to kill him, that is a complete overreaction, IMO. If that even comes to light, you have to make that decision, not anyone else.

Yeah. This is nowhere near the level of a Benoit situation with it forever tarnishing the previous accolades of the individual. That and last time I checked, the sheriff made a statement to the regards that there was no evidence of criminal intent so no charges were going to be filed.
Unless you place more faith in the mob rule of internet social crusaders and the news media than you do the people actually conducting the investigation...

Common sense would alert them that perhaps putting a guy in a race car again after being involved in a death may not be the smartest move. Plus NASCAR, come on now, I don't think your rule back is THAT specific. I have yet to see their "rulebook" in print.

I think it will be next to impossible to prove Tony Stewart intended to hit him. As long as Tony Stewart continues to deny it, I seriously doubt there will ever be any charges against him and Ward's death will always officially be considered a racing-related accident.

According to a crew member of the car that was directly in front of Tony Stewart's at the time of the incident, he himself didn't see Kevin Ward until it was almost too late and narrowly avoided hitting him himself, and Tony had even less time to react. so yeah.

Awkward little thing here... One of the first cars to pass by after the incident is the 1z car, driven by Tony's ex-girlfriend, Jessica Zemken...

Saw the video and I hate to disparage the dead, but this was the kid's fault. You don't go on the track to confront a driver in the middle of a race, especially on a freaking turn where those drivers are less able to move around you because they are going to be too busy freaking turning.
The only punishment that Tony Stewart should get is probably going to be the harshest of all punishments, and that is that is going to be in his conscience.

^ My thoughts the entire time. It's going to difficult in the way that you really can't say anything about a victim even in something like this without being accused of victim-blaming, but I'd say it was pretty much all the kid's fault.

Tony Stewart will not be racing this weekend in Michigan and Jeff Burton will sub for this race according to ESPN.
