I agree completely. That " I love this business" line was brutal, it throughly deserved to be booed. The promo seemed totally designed to keep him babyface but everything else he did in terms of mannerisms and the way he spoke screamed heel. It's almost like he's been scripted to stay face but his natural bitchy thin skinned self is evident too. He said something about booing those that boo him and cheering those that cheer him but honestly who is cheering him? Cena gets mixed reactions hence the Lets Go Cena/Cena Sucks chants but Batista is seemingly getting almost 100% heat. He's not getting mixed reactions, he's the biggest heel. Has any reasonably big star ever returned crappier than this? No. In terms of a horribly failed, forced comeback that, while maybe once anticipated was so awful that it was crapped on unanimously, there's literally only one comparison I can think of, and that's the Ultimate Warrior's 1998 WCW comeback. Which is ironic, because Warrior's comeback essentially consisted of: 1) Management being desperate to turn things around with a quick nostalgia fix 2) Someone with too much power who constantly needed their ego stroked bringing in a face from their past for a main event storyline that stunk up the show 3) Paying way too much money for said nostalgia quick-fix - who, in reality, didn't do much to turn ratings/buyrates around because his marquee value was quickly lost due to crappy booking, piss-poor in-ring and promo work and the fans not having it 4) Management ignoring the fact that there were actually younger, more over guys on the roster deserving of that main event spot (including one guy who more over than anyone the company had seen in years) instead insisting they know better and sticking, stubbornly, to their plans and to the past while it all fell apart around them, which lead to fans getting frustrated and leaving once they realized the focus wasn't going to be put on those guys. See, the reason people get pissed when WWE takes "LOLWCW" shots isn't because of some rose-colored notion that WCW was always good, or even good most of the time; it's the stupid amount of arrogance and unwarranted dick-swinging this company displays when they refuse to realize that they're not the hit factory they were in the Attitude Era, and that they've become just as bad - and in some ways worse - than WCW was at it's nadir, right down to making some of the same mistakes. But they won the war and they're still drunk off that and refuse to see that they're not as foolproof as they think they are; and there's plenty of non-wrestling historical parallels you can draw there about why that's never a good idea.

I love so much that Dave started his promo off with "Get this through your head." Wonderful start there Dave, that'll convince 'em. Him struggling to speak because he was so out of breath after a ten minute match was a highlight too.

One thing I haven't seen pointed out much due to how quickly that promo overshadowed it, but it seemed like a really bizarre choice to have Batista lose. My guess is that it was a little of them wanting to try and get people to care about Alberto because they're still not going to give up on that, and a little bit of them thinking that maybe if they have a little more in the way of showing Batista as fallible he'll get a warmer reception.

It was one of the worst promos I've heard in a while. And I say this as someone who doesn't hate Batista, but my god, this face run of his just absolutely blows.

It's almost like he's been scripted to stay face but his natural bitchy thin skinned self is evident too. Take this with a grain of salt, but Meltzer is reporting that WWE's intention is to still go ahead regardless of the backlash with Batista as a "face", and that this Friday's Smackdown interview is supposed to somehow convince the fans that they're wrong about him. I just can't see it, though. WWE has to realize that this experiment has failed and there is no salvaging a babyface out of Big Dave. I'm seriously confused...as Douchetista he was masterful, one of my favorite heels of all time. As a returning face he sucks, and he's so hated that a total Douchetista turn would be gold...yet they don't want to do it. WWE booking is completely perplexing.

I view everything Batisra related as comedy. Everything he's been involved in, since his return, has been hilarious. And it's going to culminate at WrestleMania XXX. That's what that match is, a punch line.

You know what I find really interesting? The Guardians of the Galaxy trailer was the hottest thing on the internet last week, yet they made no reference to it. I would not be surprised at all if Disney forbode them from referencing the film in regards to Batista after he's been so poorly received. WWE has made their audience loathe a star of their big summer Marvel picture. Disney is probably pissed.

Disney's probably thanking them, Disney is now 110% sure of the disaster it would be to have Batista do a lot of press for the movie. Reporter: "Mr Batista, how do you think comic book fans will react to this movie?" Batista: "If they don't like it, they can suck my balls." Reporter: "Um, okay." Batista: "If they got a problem with me, I hate them!" Either that or he goes off on a random person for wearing an X-Men shirt.

I liked it, it was basically the PG version of Batista telling people to suck his balls.

It's going to be next week when their in Chicago.
If they have the balls to send Batista out there, he'll get eaten alive.

I like Batista, but man that promo last night was brutal, and his return in general has just been handled incredibly poorly. You bring a guy and have him immediately get a main event spot at WrestleMania, without doing anything to establish why audiences in 2014 should care about the guy beyond "He's Batista! He was popular several years ago!" Shit, the Rock got more effort put into his character when he first came back in 2011, and if there's absolutely anyone who could have afforded to coast on past glory and nothing else, it's the Rock.

I'm pretty sure WWE is going to have to necromance Chris Benoit in order to give Batista an opponent that the audience would boo over him. And even then, they'd have to really, really think about it.

Dave is in a new Marvel movie? Good enough!

It's a WrestleMania crowd. Zombie Benoit would be over like Rover and they'd only feel bad for it a couple of days later.

There's so much fantastic analysis in here of why current Batista isn't working for me. I love FAN sometimes. Smartest wrestling board on the net.

@davebautista: By the way...I left because I had to not because I wanted to. ...I thought he left because he was pissed off that Triple H was getting to star in a WWE Films movie instead of him.
